Melissa makes landfall in southwest Jamaica near New Hope. We haven't seen an Atlantic hurricane this strong strike land unless you were alive in 1935. We rate the strength of a storm by it's pressure. Lower the number = stronger the storm. #Melissa

Melissa has maximum sustained winds up to 185 mph with a pressure at 892 mb. It makes it the third strongest Atlantic Hurricane on record. Landfall will likely occur within the next hour. #Melissa
