The Dawgs fought hard tonight. Onto the next tomorrow afternoon.
The Okotoks Dawgs fought hard against the Fort McMurray Giants Saturday, June 6, but fell short 9-7. Five thousand four hundred and twelve fans filled Seaman Stadium for Tight and Bright 80's Night, providing a vibrant backdrop for the Dawgs' close matchup with the Giants.
Turner Zdunich (Colby Community College) once again performed well at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored, one RBI and a walk. Landon Kauffman also turned in a strong offensive performance, with two hits, one RBI, and a walk.
Relievers Brody Papay (Wright State University), Jordan Kievman (Wright State University), Max McCraray (University of Houston) and Jack Thompson (Dawgs Academy) helped keep the Dawgs within striking distance, combining for five strikeouts in relief.
Despite the loss, the Dawgs continued to battle until the final out, cutting into the Giants' lead and giving the home crowd plenty to cheer about throughout the night.
The Dawgs now look ahead to their next home game tomorrow, Sunday, June 7, when they will get a second chance against the Giants at 2:05 p.m. It will be a fun-filled afternoon featuring the rescheduled Diggity's Birthday – Mascot Mania celebration from Opening Weekend, as well as Sobeys Strike Out Hunger Day, combining baseball, family fun, and community support for a great cause. Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to be donated to the Okotoks Food Bank.
