For me Advocate’s Pro Bono award is one of the highlights of the legal year.
This year Lord Goldsmith and myself judged the Pro Bono silk of the year award. Whilst the award could have gone to any of those shortlisted - phenomenal pro bono work by all- the winner was Justin Bates KC.
Highly commended were Sophie Cartwright and James Goudie KC.
Also, recognition to Marc Willers KC who was shortlisted.

We are proud to celebrate 30 members of 4PB who have been recognised on the 2026 Pro Bono Recognition List of England and Wales, acknowledging individuals who have dedicated 25 hours or more to pro bono work over the past year.
With 12 silks and 18 juniors recognised, 4PB leads the London family bar in the number of individuals on this year’s list, with our members having contributed over 750 hours of #ProBono work in the last 12 months.
This outstanding achievement reflects not only the individual dedication of those recognised, but also 4PB’s collective commitment to championing #AccessToJustice and supporting vulnerable individuals and community initiatives.
Join us in congratulating all our members recognised on this year’s list.
