While minimum unit pricing has been a step in the right direction, there is more that needs to be done to reduce the numbers of alcohol-related deaths as seen in today's report.

@GraemeCall78170 Policy & Public Affairs Lead for @WeAreWithYou tells @STVNews "Things like liver failure, liver cancer will be included in those statistics however there will be a whole host of other conditions where someone will lose their life because they were drinking and we don't know what that figure is and it could be much much more than that. So I think that just reaffirms organisations like ourselves to do more to make sure we have better access, quicker access to treatment and support in our communities whether that be online or face to face"

An increase in the number of people who died from drug misuse in Scotland last year is expected to be revealed when official figures are published in the next few hours.

It's thought a rise in the use of high-strength synthetic opioids - such as fentanyl - is partly to blame. Scotland already has the worst drug death rate in Europe.
