Giving PL football clubs more money will not result in healthy balance sheets, if it did, football clubs in the PL could let fans in for free and still be swimming in cash. More money will just attract more charlatans and frauds who will siphon off all the financial gains and leave the fans to incur the losses. Penny pinching off people at the bottom because of avarice at the top is hardly new but it has never been forgivable and should never be accepted as inevitable. It stops when there are consequences for doing so.

I used to envy clubs with flashy modern grandstands when I was a kid watching my hometown club. Nowadays, @BuryTownFC’s small, cosy and brilliantly peculiar edifice represents a time when non-league grounds had a delightful homespun charm. That said, the Jimmy the Rattle stand opposite is a superb recent addition and a fine tribute to a supporter who was an ever-present when I used to visit regularly. 634 here today for the visit of @_IWFC who themselves look far better under new management.
