VIDEO | Delhi: As Trump administration orders green card applicants to leave the US, apply from their home countries, Immigration lawyer Surat Singh says, “I believe there is a due process of law in America for both citizens and non-citizens, as the Fifth Amendment applies to ‘persons’, not just citizens. Simply making an administrative decision is not enough, because it can be challenged in court. America became great because of the talent of immigrants, and policies that discourage talent will ultimately weaken the country instead of strengthening it. If someone is legally in the U.S., they should be allowed to apply for a green card from within the country, as was permitted earlier. Asking people to leave the U.S., quit their jobs, and apply again from outside is unfair, anti-talent, and against human rights, morality, and even the spirit of American law.”
