Women's empowerment thru collaborative learning in community. Peer-driven, participatory research on #Digital inclusion #sexwork#SSHRC @SafeSpaceLondon
What does it mean to be included in a technological world for the folks who access @SafeSpaceLondon? The same things it means to you & me: opportunity, convenience, connection, resources. #digitalequity
We're finally open 💜 5 years, a needs assessment, ethics, followup inquiry, another ethics approval, grant and equipment purchase, our little digital learning hub with/for #sexworkers@SafeSpaceLondon is finally launched. #digitalinclusion
The rhetoric in London around what our city should look like demonstrates ableism,
exclusion and clear messaging about what types of bodies are entitled to (public) spaces.

Need to print a simple document? The multiple literacies requires to do are far reaching. We aim to provide a safe learning environment to acquire these skills.
Taking my job is not saving me.
Putting me out on the street is not saving me.
Making it so that I can’t eat is not saving me.
Making me vulnerable to rape and assault is not saving me.
And you know what? I DIDN’T ASK FOR YOUR HELP. #SESTA#FOSTA https://t.co/fJvsYSMV4T
Even to activate the Loblaw card for price fixing, multiple literacies, tech access and dexterity required. These processes are not equitable #digitalinclusion#socialexclusion
It is a matter of social justice & human rights to equip SWs with literacy skills & protections necessary to participate online, to optimize platforms as other industries can. As safer spaces are seized, our hearts breaks- lives will be lost #nosafespace https://t.co/aaKN5vw7NG
People outside of the sex industry don’t realize how heart-breaking it is for us to see #Backpage & similar sites close.
Imagine if you showed up to work one day & the building was gone.
And with no warning, your income gone. You can’t feed yourself or your kids.
Imagine.
#sexwork twitter can you send any resources our way about digital tech, sex work and online learning. Specifically regulations, policies, programming. Thank you!
We didn't see digital inclusion strategies addressing unique needs of sex workers, so we are getting creative about how to deliver based on data we've collected with & for community #inclusionON
What some will call safety others will experience as surveillance. Online spaces can be used as instruments of the state, weaponized against particular communities, esp.
Lower literacies + ppl in poverty #sexwork#inclusionON
Digital inclusion and enhanced safety for some of our most excluded communities will require decriminalization of #sexwork so people can use these tools in the same ways others can, to maximize possibilities #safety#privacy#inclusionON
Time to take down our exhibit @londonlibrary The exhibit shared #sexworkers representations of the way digital technologies make them feel. Patrons were invited to tell us on hanging canvases throughout, how they too felt about tech: excluded, watched, afraid, connected.
The almost universal requirement to seamlessly move across a range of online platforms to participate in (online) civic life is leaving out so many in our #lndon community,
What’s your relationship to tech? How does it make you feel? In December, @SafeSpaceLondon has an art exhibit in @londonlibrary downtown branch 2nd floor showing how sex workers & allies answer these questions. Come check it out!
