“Work smarter, not harder” implies there’s a dignified path to competence.
There isn’t.
The path is messy, embarrassing, and littered with mistakes that make you look like you don’t know what you’re doing - because you don’t.
The people who eventually work smart are the ones who were willing to work dumb first. They asked obvious questions. Tried “wrong” approaches.
They looked like beginners because they were beginners and they took the ego hit that comes with that.
That’s the part most people can’t handle. The pain of looking incompetent is the price you pay on the road to excellence.
The better you are at enduring it, the further you go.
Been banging out laps over the last several days. Up to 850. The last 200 laps felt much better, feeling more efficient and have much better rhythm! Followed my latest swim by throwing this NY strip on the grill.
Gaining posterior power just got better — with the Plate-Loaded Glute Drive.

+50. Changed my lap sequence, knocked these out 2 at a time. Banged out my first 100 yard consecutive swim. Total at 590!

Just listened to @will_ratelle talk about “giant” sets on the @JustFlySports podcast. Love the autonomy this gives athletes. I’ve used cluster sets for years, but this is a creative way to build in high intensity at a high(er) volume.
