This is due to the selective enforcement of the law & absence of urban planning. @KCCAUG & @nemaug must build a city sustainably protecting people $ nature.
Wetlands aren't vacant land, but critical ecosystems.

🔨🔋Uganda is positioning itself as a key supplier of critical minerals needed for the clean energy transition.
However, mining must not come at the expense of communities, biodiversity and water resources.

NEMA STEPS UP PROTECTION OF KAJJANSI WETLAND
@nemaug, working with the Department of Wetlands Management, Ministry of Water and Environment and relevant Local Governments has intensified efforts to safeguard wetlands in Uganda.
Details...
This morning, climate defenders and affected communities held a powerful 48-minute protest at the @TotalEnergiesUG headquarters against @EACOP_ the suffering of and evictions esp. in Kapapi MUST stop. We were dispersed only after police vehicles arrived, threatening arrests.
Ahead of TotalEnergies AGM, activists in Uganda gathered outside the company's headquarters in Kampala in solidarity with the EACOP project-affected people. The contrast between corporate gain and community pain couldn't be sharper. #KickPollutersOut#StopEACOP#StopMozGas
🚨Happening now: Edinburgh joins #KickPollutersOut global week of action outside Aberdeen Group plc, Scotland's largest investment manager & major investor in TotalEnergies. Police blocked inside disruption, but the action outside still sent a strong message of global solidarity!
Kampala, our beloved city habours over 5 Million people as of 2025 a population that produces over 2500 tones of waste everyday.
70% of this waste is organic which should be a blessing in disguise, however it’s not leveraged because only 40% is collected and below 35% of the population have access to formal collection services for disposal leaving the rest of the waste to end up in drainage channels thus wetlands and water bodies, burnt and other informal methods used to dispose it off where it decomposes.
Decomposing organic waste emits greenhouse gases that include methane which is very dangerous to the environment and ecosystems.
Run the figures…
▶️1 tone of controlled collection of biogas can generate 85Kgs enough to take a family of 4 people 3 months.
▶️Starndad dump fill like those of KCCA (Kitezi) can generate 50Kgs and if used for cooking, it can take approximately two months.
Nature has always provided sustainable solutions we nonetheless chose hazardous quick alternatives.
If we are to achieve net zero by 2050 as according to the Paris agreement, and to prevent catastrophic effects of #Climatechange and limit global warming we must cut greenhouse gas emissions.
Harnessing renewable energy like solar and biogas would not only save trees 🌲 mostly used for charcoal but also conserve the environment.
In this #GlobalWeekOfAction let’s not just preach a just transition but rather walk the talk by reductions in use of charcoal, fosssil fuels, putting an end to over dependence on fossil fuels and stop all oil drills like @EACOP_ majorly funded by @TotalEnergiesUG.
