As per usual, I've written up my Top 50 Albums of the Year, with a long playlist of awesome songs included. Give it a read / listen if you're so inclined. Not sure what I would do with myself if not for music!

Wrote some stuff about an artist that’s never taken a break from being an artist. Danny Brown consistently shows us what it means to create without fear and embrace humanity, and his newest is no exception. Give it a read if so inclined!

Five years ago, we claimed Danny Brown was the best artist of the 2010s. Half a decade later he might be in the conversation for the greatest of all time.
On the difference five years makes, QUARANTA, his podcast, and the brilliantly colorful STARDUST. https://t.co/RukSbfKsyi
Today is the 20th birthday of an all-time favorite: Illinois by Sufjan Stevens. Thoughts on a modern classic, and what it can mean to us today on a 4th of July that feels less worthwhile than ever.

@Grantpa23 Never been able to get there on a Tuesday but Zaca is my go-to pre-radio dinner spot on Sunday nights on my way up to CHIRP. Easily some of the best asada in the city.
It's time for the annual CHIRP spring fundraising drive! CHIRP has been around for 15 years spinning local independent music with NO commercials, and it's only possible through listener support. Please consider chipping in $15 to help cheer up 15-year old Jacob. Link below!
In order to free myself from the cycle of listening to nothing but Bob Dylan for the last 2 months, I've exorcised all my many thoughts from my head into writing. Enter the thunderdome, if you dare.

I simply have no idea how anybody could view this as remotely good for baseball. I'm one of the biggest diehards for the sport you're going to find and I just canceled my MLB TV subscription.
The Los Angeles Dodgers, who already have folks screaming about their payroll, have reached a tentative agreement with free-agent closer Kirby Yates, pending a physical. The deal comes on the heels of signing Tanner Scott to a 4-year, $72 million contract.

Always a thrill to contribute to the MGRM AOTY list, even moreso this year as they were kind enough to entrust me with the words for the #1 spot (along with #13, 32, 40, 44). Give it a read, give it a listen!
As a little AOTY list preview here's a dozen of my favorite individual moments in songs from 2024, in no particular order. Highly recommend listening to the whole song to hear these in context!
currently trying to imagine the kind of guy who would willingly put themselves through the ordeal of traveling from DeKalb, IL to Boise, ID on the Monday before Christmas for the purpose of watching the 8-5 NIU Huskies play in the Famous Idaho Potatoes Bowl
Caroline is watching Love Actually and is literally doing the "shaking my head at the screen to show I don't approve" thing whenever infidelity is taking place in the movie
From Coco and Clair Clair doing Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young to Mitski doing Pete Seeger, we're happy to finally present: Our Top 50 Covers of 2024! https://t.co/1ADwpERLyG
I’ve long said that I think the secret of the universe is SOMEWHERE in the song “Visions of Johanna,” like, genuinely one of the greatest songs of all time by a guy who has a lot of 'em. But I should say, treating it like a SoundCloud rap video from the early 2010s is so funny.
"Pretentious" is one of the most flagrantly abused words in the English language, most frequently employed as a cheap shortcut to avoid addressing someone or something on their actual merits. People who have sincere opinions about things they care about are not pretentious!
DALLAS — The Washington Nationals have won the 2025 MLB draft lottery. For the third time in franchise history, they will select first (Strasburg in 2009, Harper in 2010) in the draft.
