I would ask that you check the coverage by the international press on your election. They are calling it the Trump Effect. Dutton tried to be a Trump look alike and it alienated the majority of your voters. Trump's trade wars are all about maintaining US hegemony around the world. Yes, the US has major financing problems. Due to their many proxy wars over the decades they now have massive debt which is eating up their GDP, more every year and the US dollar is losing its prominence as the world's reserve currency. But make no mistake this is about taking down China. But the problem is that China will win the trade war which will leave Trump as a malignant sociopathic narcissist in a difficult position. Will he then start a war with China to save his pride? If he does, Australia will be right in the middle of it, in particular because you are basing US military assets. NORAD was only for the benefit of the US as an early warning system should Russia attack across Canada. That was another fantasy of the US which was never going to happen. The US has run deficits every year since 2001 whether under a republican or democratic administration. In Trump's first term he accumulated 7.8 trillion in deficits which was added to the national debt. This was after he bragged that he was going to pay off the national debt through GDP growth. How did that work out? The US debt situation is a complex problem involving emergency measures taken during the 2007 recession and the 2019 Covid crisis along with rising interest rates. Too many wars, too large a military and irresponsible tax cuts have led to the current situation in my opinion but it certainly is not a strictly democratic problem.
Trump in his second term has constantly whined about trade deficits and other countries taking advantage of the US. The real problem is that the US can no longer compete and thus US consumers are buying the cheaper imported products. Trump installed tariffs to attempt to force countries to move their manufacturing to the US and/or to blackmail them to make investments in the US which Trump was going to use to try and re-industrialize his financialized economy. Of course, none of that has worked. Canada was just one target of many, the difference being we won't co-operate and the malignant toddler can't get his own way.
Now, the rest of the world is diversifying their economies and moving away from the US if they can.
Trump talks the talk, but can't walk the walk. He is, as I said nothing but a carnival barker building monuments to himself.

First all moron, the 65 billion figure is just an estimate of what might be available in these fields. Secondly, they do not form part of oil US reserves as Venezuela owns the oil and like most oil countries around the world, receive royalties from the oil companies who drill there.
The 100 year lease was negotiated in the Venezuelan National Assembly during a period of duress and a future elected Venezuelan government could void the lease. This was one of the reasons the Office of Strategic Capital has to step in to provide guarantees for the risk.
The OSC cannot legally acquire a 35% equity in North American Blue Energy by exercising the penny warrants under current law.
Since at least a 100 billion of private investment will be required to refurbish the countries oil infrastructure, it is very likely that significant increases in current output will take many years to realize so this will not help with the Strategic oil reserves or current price levels.

Not true as usual. The EU is pushing a voluntary economic strategy called the Savings and Investments Union (SIU). The goal is to incentivise citizens to voluntarily move a portion of their cash into higher-yielding investments such as corporate bonds and stocks to help fund local businesses and green energy transition. The F-35 Lightening while being an advanced 5th generation fighter has its weaknesses as follows:

High Operating costs- $30,000 to $40,000 per hour

Complex Logistics- plane uses a computer system to self diagnose problems and order parts form a central inventory resulting in massive delays which keep the plane out of service for long periods of time.

Shortage of spare parts due to US supply problems in its military industrial complex

Limited weapons payload

Restricted Combat radius

Lack of Sovereign control

Requirement of specialized hangars

In addition, the F-35 was suppose to be an integral part of the battle space able to transfer data to ground radar, naval vessels and other types of fighters but due to certain complexities, it is unable to do that and has to use standard NATO radio links which negates its stealth. Finally, Iran and China are developing techniques to track the F-35 thermal plume and air displacement through the use of passive infrared and coherent location tracking, AI infrared missiles and Quantum Single-Photon Radars.
NATO countries did not want to spend the development costs of billions of dollars for a 5th generation jet so they concentrated on enhancing capibilities of existing 4.5 generation planes.
Canada only needs a handful of F-35's to meet its NATO commitments even though they will probably spend most of their time on the ground. The Griphen is sufficient for local coastline and arctic patrol duties.
Canada has joined the Global Combat Air Program being developed by UK, Japan and Italy to build a 6th generation aircraft.
Based on our current relations with the US, it would be better to concentrate our resources here and look to Europe for a next generation fighter aircraft.

The first point to be made is that many are now considering the new deal to be outright extortion, economic colonialism, and infringement on Venezuelan sovereignty which could cause political unrest for the current government in the country.
Delcy Rodriguez is either being threatened or bought off, one or the other to have accepted these one sided terms.
The next hurdle will be whether the US oil companies are willing to invest the 100 billion for infrastructure upgrades required.
Finally, what happens in two years when the great white whale's term is completed ( that is if the US can get him out of power ).
Assuming this fantasy comes to fruition in the future, then you can bet that US oil refineries will buy the cheaper Venezuelan heavy sour crude over Canada's oil.
Just another reason to diversify our oil export destinations to Asia by increasing pipeline capacity to the west.
