Such a great listen! It really hit home, especially changing attention seeking to connection seeking. If you're in education, you need to give this a listen. #cuiedtech#secondgradelife
A5: I've begun reflecting weekly with my students on an anchor chart and post-its. Last week it was about one thing we'd change about our week, and it was interesting to see how a few would have tried to make better choices at home/school. #dtk12chat
@WickedDecent Sometimes I know that someone is going through a difficult time because that information is passed on to me, so I try to put a "Thinking of You" card in their box just to say hello and wish them a good day.
@scibri As a staff we shared our "whys" in a survey and our admin put them into a spreadsheet without our names. It was so interesting to see how many of us had similar "whys."
A4: Breathe and remind myself that I don't know all the struggles they face or have faced. Everyone experiences trauma in their lives and we all move on from it in different ways. #dtk12chat
@LSpencerEdD@WickedDecent This is such a great idea! I keep telling myself I'm going to do something like this during my lunch but end up prepping instead.
@klbwick@WickedDecent I just thought this the other day! I try to visit minimally but make an appearance every so often because it definitely tests mine.
@scibri Yes! I completely agree with you. Especially for my second graders, it's not always a reason within their control. It's too bad the parents/caretakers can't get the tardy slip instead.
Q1: When students are experiencing things in their lives that are beyond anyone's control. It can be difficult where to draw the line between empathy and maintaining expectations. #dtk12chat
Hi Everyone! My name is Micaela and I teach second grade in California. I really wish my former principal, who dismissed me my first year, could hear me. #dtk12chat

Wow. I wish I had seen this two years ago when I was a #firstyearteacher with an incredibly defiant student that I was clearly not prepared for. #teacherlife
Thanks to the activities feature in @seesaw I was able to watch how each of my students think through math, even when I was working with other groups. Best of all, their parents were able to see right along with me! ❤️
Side note: my class has gotten so good at place value!

This one hit home with my classroom this week. So many little friends with so many needs that aren't a part of any core subject curriculum. #jugglingact#secondgradelife
