Tomorrow, the Speaker's Advisory Committee on Works of Art assesses the We Too Built Britain proposal, supported by more than 60 cross party politicians, to have an artwork in Parliament to honour NHS and key workers.
@MaysalounFaraj@MuseumofColour It was me / I nominated you. Also I did a podcast with @MuseumofColour where I talked about how much you inspired me and the arts and diapora communities
The story of the yellow #JohnYstumllynRose that symbolises friendship & community holds a powerful & relevant message to share in schools across #Leicester during this time as well as including it in history lessons all year #TBH365#BlackHistoryMonth@WeTooBB
Thanks to @Zehra_Zaidi for contributing on practical ways to make history a 'living bridge' across divides - and her work with @WeTooBB projects @75Windrush & many others to bring that to life

I was honoured to be invited to Buckingham Palace today to plant the John Ystumllyn Rose in the rose garden for her Majesty, Royal Family & the public to enjoy. Together with @harkness_roses, myself & @WeTooBB created this rose as a symbol of friendship, community & tolerance.
Today, @harkness_roses and @WeTooBB launch the John Ystumllyn Rose, named after the first ever recorded black person in north Wales.
In celebration of #BlackHistoryMonth we must ensure that the Ystumllyn Rose blossoms as a symbol of friendship, love, kindness and community.
The video that @georgeherd created about the John Ystumllyn Rose is so poignant. So glad we get to hear from Philip Harkness of @harkness_roses - one of the finest rose breeders in the world. You can see the joy & pride of everyone in creating this rose - https://t.co/Z8fRLUX6Uz
Almost a year ago on the #RHSPodcast, @Zehra_Zaidi told us the remarkable story of John Ystumllyn, an 18th century African who was abducted and brought to North Wales.
He became a gardener and the first well-recorded black person of the era to live in that region.
Zehra is back this week to mark Black History Month with some fantastic news – a new rose had been launched by @harkness_roses to commemorate John’s life. It’s believed to be the first rose named after an ethnic minority Briton.

The John Ystumllyn rose, named after the 18th century black north Wales gardener. His marriage to Margaret Gruffydd may be the first interracial marriage recorded in Wales. Congrats @harkness_roses@Zehra_Zaidi & @WeTooBB for bringing the history to life with this lovely tribute
Proud to finally launch what has been a labour of love during the pandemic. @harkness_roses – breeder of the finest roses for 140 years - joined forces with @WeTooBB to create what we believe might be the first rose named after an ethnic minority Briton https://t.co/1TqkTCm9vV
@TomTugendhat@PreetKGillMP@Zehra_Zaidi@WeTooBB For me its the BWIR - The British West Indies Regiment (WW1) and the Caribbean countries especially Jamaica who donated so much to the war effort yet until of recent years, never been acknowledged or down played.
