Just had a quick and efficient schooling on a situation where my surface frustration and tiredness got the better of my core compassion.
I will do better in future.
Just because it’s been rough now doesn’t mean it should continue to be rough.
We can all make good choices.
@clairol007@MartinSLewis@RachelReevesMP I don’t meant to shame u as an individual landlady, but there is a misconception that tenants have it easy, have loads of protection & loads of choice. They don’t, Massive chance is needed to make the system fair.. and to enable them to eventually buy a home. Currently it’s 🤯
@clairol007@MartinSLewis@RachelReevesMP “But I asked my tenants and they were really happy…?” Sit with that statement for a while, whilst noting that rents in their area on average increased 10%. Whilst dealing with mould, having no working apps or boilers. The law says: you pay rent, no matter what.
@RishiSunak So there’s always money to bail out your incompetent gambler mates who spaffed away people’s actual earned money, “banks were too big to fail” - well they are doing quite well now aren’t they? So now it’s their turn to support the taxpayer. ALL of them to be clear. Renters too.
@LBC@TomSwarbrick1 This (understandable) terror for mortgage holders is what renters have been feeling & experiencing for at least a year. Where was the media coverage & outrage then? Renters aren’t even being discussed atm. Despite rents being mortgage + x%…to ‘cover landlord costs’. Raging.
@Edwina_Currie And you all had a) massive student debt b) high rents meaning you were unable to “put money away for a rainy day” let alone a deposit (which was min £30000 yes?) and c) min choice of houses built where jobs are, with more competition and oh yes house prices..11x your salary? Yes?
@clairol007@MartinSLewis@RachelReevesMP I get mortgages go up, but tenants’ wages haven’t gone up, so passing on all ur rises, inflating the market will mean ppl soon won’t be able to rent anywhere. If the property is an investment you should expect negative equity. A home is an essential & shouldn’t be part of a game.
@MartinSLewis What is the solution for renters? Faced with 10-50% prices rises?!Being turfed out of properties with minimal security? To face an unregulated property market with ppl offering 12 MONTHS IN ADVANCE?? Could you pay 12 months of your mortgage in advance?! 🤯 Totally ignored!! Help!
@MartinSLewis@RachelReevesMP I appreciate those in power only do something when it actively affects them, but has nobody realised that the future generation are likely currently renters? Ignore millennials with extortionate uni loan fees and stuck in rentals for decades…but who cares about that vote right?
@Jeremy_Hunt@MartinSLewis So what’s your plan for the rental crisis? Mortgages going up by 3% - understandably scary. Rents going up 10,20,50% in between tenancies? 🤷♀️ Ppl offering 12 months in advance to beat 10s/100s other applicants? 🤷♀️
What are you doing to deal with the far scarier rent crisis? 😟
@AvantiWestCoast I just tried to get through carriages on the London Euston to Edinburgh train and the amount of luggage in aisles and in between carriages and people forced to sit on the floor is seriously unsafe. If there was an emergency nobody would be able to get out.
