@CalltoActivism “Charming 1960’s split-level in the nouveau-Fasciste style. Open floor plan perfect for clandestine organizing meetings. Women will love the large kitchen with carpeted floor for keeping bare feet comfortable year round….”
@pattonoswalt Rented this from our local video store (Captain Video) when I was in high school (1988-89ish). I didn’t understand it and was disappointed. On your recommendation, I will revisit it.
@maksimologija @ADNockNock Are you a native Russian speaker or did you learn it as a second language? Did you set out to learn CS?
I only ask because your ability to see the similarities could be an artifact of studying both languages. That’s not the experience of native speakers.
@profsamperry Great question. My immediate answer would have been: “Apple-polishing teenagers who ask questions to get out of working.” But then I would have turned it around on him. There’s definitely a question behind the question.
@Casioppee @JosiahTMcElroy There's no chance of union under Bartholomew. Not a whiff. He is doing what virtually every E.P. has done by leaving the door open for union. You're awfully wound up about this for no reason. What are the barriers to union as you see them?
@Casioppee @JosiahTMcElroy So you're saying that, after a thousand years of division and after countless attempts at rapprochement by dozens of popes and patriarchs, Bartholomew, by speaking kindly and peacefully to his fellow hierarch (the pope), he is going to fold on unity? =>
@Sevynn3970 @JosiahTMcElroy No worries. The division has been there for some time but granting autocephaly definitely turned up the heat. I have to admit that my knowledge of the details is limited but as I recall Bartholomew waded into it reluctantly to offer an end to the conflict. A gross misjudgment.
@collincornell1 True that. For the record, I strongly disagree with the take in the screen shot on your OP. I am against any thought that begins with, “The whole Bible could be portrayed…” Reductivism in scripture makes me twitchy.
@collincornell1 I don’t know. The textual history of the Bible depicts a fairly haphazard ( to say nothing of eclectic) construction. I struggle with seeing a the fall, Babel, the flood, and the creation of Israel as premeditated. They read like attempts by God to keep his creation together. ~>
@profsamperry I’d be interested in that data as well. Anecdotally, my 86 y/o mother has been an Evangelical her whole life. Devoutly so. She made a comment one time about the term “Evangelical” being a political party. It was in passing so I didn’t explore it but it made me want to know more.
