@Kittywampus@dwaldenwrites No doubt not having any significant power makes people not wanna even try, but it seems like the average prof doesn't even know basic stuff about what's happening at their institution, and a sizable portion also don't care much. That's different than feeling powerless
@SiegersY@dwaldenwrites I'm no expert on shared governance, but at the three universities I've been to the resident Old Guy professor has told me that even in the 80s and 90s basically no one wanted to be the department representative for shared governance.
@arne__ness my uneducated guess is that they toast on the flat top instead of a toaster or a low heat salamander, and the flat top only applies heat on one side at a time, often unevenly if the bread has a bit of non-flatness to it. diners love using the butter wheel thing though
@worst_account I also TA'd a class where Slack was a significant component (although not all assignments were turned in there). The work flow is slower in all ways. Blackboard, Canvas, Brightspace, whatever, ya just gotta have one of them.
@PhiloCasey For sure, when it's specific phrases, but it also encompasses theme, plot, semantic pattern, etc. searching. I rarely am remembering specific wording, maybe bc I don't do history of phil like that
@PhiloCasey When it comes to searching text I've found that attaching the exact file you want it to search helps a decent amount. Obv. there are worries about uploading texts to their services, but just for performance it seems to improve the results
@Sturgeons_Law I think you're probably right about the explanation for why it got so many noms, but there is a related disagreement in the background: are good genre movies of comparable quality to good non-genre movies?
