Pulled this bottle from the back of the closet when some friends came over on Friday. It was just under half full but was the favorite of the night. At 67% it needs some ice but then a lovely creme brulee emerged along with spicy gingersnaps. Good thing I still have one more!
Finished another great value this week! Picked up this particular Rebel Distiller’s Collection in Austria for €60. It’s still in stock at Killis if you happen to be in the neighborhood…
The photo doesn’t do this bottle justice.
The sweetness of the oily and bitter Linkwood is calmed by the Madeira finish. Incredibly drinkable. And for $45 a bottle is an absolute 10/10 for value!
Recently I spent some time updating some if the prices in my whisky spreadsheet and for the fist time many of the bourbons and ryes dropped a few dollars per bottle. Has anyone else noticed this trend?
This rum changed my entire outlook on rum. Naturally sweet, tropical fruits, and a little tar. Superb!
Gave it a 9/10 for value based on the purchase price of $110. Unfortunately it was a single barrel and I probably couldn’t pick it up for that amount again.
Had an on and off relationship with this Balcones Single Malt. With a little ice it was sweet, mouth coating and rich with baking spices. It was my go to dram for pairing with desserts. Other times the baking spices and oak dominated 🤷♂️.
5/10 on a true 0-10 scale.
Had a lovely time sipping on excellent drams and supporting @sowhatelsehelps last night! Many thanks to @preservationdistillery and @charitybarrel for organizing the event. I got lucky and won a few raffle items! After the third win I cracked open the bottle and shared it 😁.
Very much enjoying this Balcones Single Malt tonight! This one is a bit rough straight but ice mellows the burn and brings out a lovely sweetness without touching the oak tannins.
Killed this lovely bottle with my neighbors last night! The wine finish adds subtle complexity, excellent for sipping.
My scores are on a true 0/10 scale (but I rarely advertise below average whiskey). Value is based on $100 at a local score.
Pouring one for my friends and coworkers affected on Friday.
Make no mistake, the criteria was not performance based and we lost some of the best. Those that jumped into action to implement recent executive orders were let go or demoted.
Does anyone have a good, (semi-)scientific reason why one whisky is more “warming” than another whisky? It came up when we were drinking two drams of about the same ABV. One was nice and” warming” the other was “hot”.
@CDNWhiskyDoc I’ve heard that at least one major Canadian whisky brand uses a little Kentucky bourbon in their blend. As a blender would you rather pay a tariff to import the bourbon or adjust the blend?
Hey #fridaynightdram crowd, I’m organizing an #IrishWhiskey tasting for enthusiasts (not connoisseurs). What do you think of this line up?
1. Redbreast 12
2. Green Spot Leoville Barton
3. Bushmills 16
4. Connacht Ballyhoo
5. Kilbeggan Rye
