Today at the @SocGenealogists I found evidence of the rural settlement of a pauper admitted to an Islington Lunatic asylum in 1848 (and her husband’s family relationships), some beautiful Taicroesion manuscript Welsh pedigrees and the Leeds County Court Ledger Fees book 1930-58

@MattChorley Cookery books aren’t recipe books. There’s a difference. Yes use the internet if you just want the ingredients and a manual but otherwise immerse yourself in food and culture and sensation. Let TM be happy with her books and leave her alone 😻😉😻
Ha @MattChorley I Else the genealogist from Whitstable am indeed your archetypal loyal @TimesRadio listener but -shock horror- a proud cat lover too 😉😻😉. Had fun on the quiz - cheers

Brought to England in 1684 by her ‘master’ Robert Rich, a planter from Barbados. Following her baptism, Katherine was increasingly maltreated by Rich and eventually turned out of his house. He forbid her from seeking employment; condemning her to destitution.

Katherine Auker was baptised at St Katherine by the Tower on 29 February 1688.
Yet what we know about Katherine relies less on the parish entry, but instead a court case she took to the Middlesex Sessions in 1690.
