“God is the third rail of rock and roll.”
Reflecting on faith, honesty, and choosing to talk openly about God in music.

Jonah, your bona fides are without reproach. The truth is you are a ship without a port. Self sustaining and prosperous enough to continue without having to bend to the realities the rest of us face. Enjoy it. For the rest of us we have to vote for the best asshole on offer and get a little annoyed when smarty pants talk down to us. Give me some Plato or Socrates to sum up my situation and yours and chill for a minute. Trump is gone in 2 years and he will have changed this nation for good and bad. Let’s hope the next builds on the good and not the bad and that you can see your way to a little more grace for we rubes who vote all in for the lesser of the assholes.
It’s the touch of a few buttons that is the issue. You had to put effort into it to put it all together and found fun and joy in the in between. Store runs, crazy lady at Blockbuster and running into Joe from 5th grade, then you make it home and tuck into the night.
You can get chips and soda now, alongside a trillion movies and a billion video games at the touch of a few buttons. As @janecoaston says, what you miss is being a child.
I think so many young people have never even witnessed let alone were taught how to eat a struggle meal or stretch a food dollar. Getting Chipotle is slumming adjacent to them and that is not a reflection on them just a reflection of the affluence they have been dropped into. They have no 70s or 80s childhood of tuna casserole and liverwurst and mustard sandwiches. Those who lived through that had parents who lived through even worse. Their existential food affordability crisis is a happy problem of sorts that is getting blown out of proportion.
I’ve experienced literally all of these things, and worse. I’ve been dirt poor. I’ve supplemented my hourly wage with Uber and pizza delivery to cover the bills. I’ve been to Aldi with the last $30 in my bank account thinking how on earth I would feed my family for a week. (beans and rice, btw) I’m doing better now, but struggled for many, years.
You forget—I didn’t say “you poors can just eat cheap slop.” I literally said “Hey guys, this is what we ate for dinner last night and it was great.” I’m not Marie Antoinette in this picture. I’m a normal person saying “here’s what I do, you can do it too” and it ENRAGES people.
Universities do not exist to promote "marginalized voices." They do not exist to promulgate social engineering experiments. They do not exist to engage in social justice activism. A university exists to expand the boundaries of human knowledge, to defend truth, and to create an ecosystem for intellectual enrichment. Once a university optimizes the wrong variables, we end up with the parasitized minds that we now see populating academia, business, politics, journalism, culture, etc. The West in general and the US in particular were founded on a set of key ideals that are unique to human history. Do not presume that these ideals are the default reality. There is always a tsunami of miscreants who are working day and night to end our liberties and freedoms, and destroy these ideals. Be vigilant. Fight for our civilization. Activate your inner honey badger.
Its not just ultra high end. I see what parents are packing in their kids lunches. Year round berries. Mid/high tier yogurts. All natural juices. Etc.
These aren’t all well to do families. Wide spread. But they are all health conscious. The era of Kraft singles and budget bologna is over.
This is amazing because it is genuine. She is a fan of the Pumpkins and she is singing a song from their grand catalog that fits her so well. Beautiful rendition of a beautiful song.
@MattWalshBlog As an artist, Nolan is entitled to take the source material and do with it as he wishes. Not everything can be Master and Commander. It was a good movie, flawed and bloated at points but still a good movie.
We think of this evil as Marxism. In reality, Marxism is nothing more or less than the current instantiation of a much more ancient evil: possession by the envious and hateful spirit that drove Cain to murder his brother Abel.
The great book of Genesis thus portrays mankind as riven by an eternal fratricidal conflict.
Those who reject genuine sacrifice become embittered by their subsequent failure ("rejection by God").
Instead of repenting and changing, they turn to revenge.
And who do they target? Those who strive to do well and offer what is best.
I can't believe how much wisdom the author of Genesis 4 compressed into that story's few sentences. You might even come to believe that God Himself had a hand in it.
Truly: it's uncanny. The first two human beings born into history are, respectively, a good, honest productive man and his brother, who allows himself to be consumed by resentment and the desire to destroy.
Communism, in a nutshell.
