@BentgrassWizard@jim_pav@STECEquip We have just shy of 3 acres. Been starting on Sunday afternoon then long days on Monday/Tuesday. Hard to see a week out.
@mh_turf Right there with ya! Got most of it out today, hopefully we can beat the snow with the rest tomorrow. Finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel!
@GCIMagazineGuy Not the current normal for sure, but I see it changing. With ample notice, a summer vacation never frustrates me - we plan around it. But I’m the weird one with 2 assistant superintendents that work 5 days/wk. I hope both of these become part of the new normal.
Looking forward to hosting the @WGCSA June meeting next Monday (June 20th). Education from @djsoldat followed by golf and great networking.
Still time to sign up!

@turfnet Another great point of view and a great example that one size does not fit all. I hope we can start to understand there isn’t just one definition of success in the golf industry or one way to reach success. Keep the conversations going. It’s helping all of us get better!
Some Assistants want to work every day-Some don’t.
Some Assistants want to be Supts-Some don’t.
Some Supts want to be GMs-Some don’t.
The solution isn’t going to be 1 size fits all, but if a career assistant isn’t an option in the industry for those who want it we are failing.
@KJA83 I think it includes some of all of the following:
-Communication and education of boards/owners/golfers
-Higher pay and/or less hours
-More utilization/training of staff
-New technology and creative efficiencies
-First Green field trips
-Better selling of the benefits of our job
@tonynyssegcs@JSutton_turf@phusby@dfloyd315 @nhccsuper @hittingreens_72 @AhooksHooks I agree and I wouldn’t be at home on a 90* weekend without someone there I can trust. And I’m not advocating a 0 assistant setup in the Mid-Atlantic. Those courses will not survive long term. I know some great people who do it, but I don’t know who will do it when they leave.
@JSutton_turf@tonynyssegcs@phusby@dfloyd315 @nhccsuper @hittingreens_72 @AhooksHooks The fact that it’s not realistic for most is what’s scaring a lot away from the industry. But fixing that problem lies in current super’s hands too. No board or membership will have any clue what we struggle with if we don’t tell them. And ultimately it’s going to hurt them most.
@tonynyssegcs@JSutton_turf@phusby@dfloyd315 @nhccsuper @hittingreens_72 @AhooksHooks (1) It comes down to how much of a priority time off is. Each course will be different, but if it’s a priority there is always a solution. I’m sure most staffs have someone who could handle running the staff on a lighter day.
@JSutton_turf@tonynyssegcs@phusby@dfloyd315 @nhccsuper @hittingreens_72 @AhooksHooks I think most of the next generation will not take that job. I would have no issue if I had an assistant for 30 years because S/he only wants to work 5 days/wk. The industry is quickly learning that the 7 days/week isn’t going to work anymore. Works for some but not as a whole.
@AhooksHooks@tonynyssegcs@phusby@dfloyd315 @nhccsuper @hittingreens_72 It’s been a work in progress to get our budget up enough to support it, and I’m fortunate to have a committee and board that understands it and supports us. I have a posting out to fill the second slot at $60,000.
