@_Do_lo_@Pirat_Nation By using the term license instead of copy the merchant is saying they can revoke access at anytime for any reason and there’s nothing you can do. However if the term was copy then you are entitled to 1 download that they cannot take away after which you can back it up yourself
@_Do_lo_@Pirat_Nation No, a disk with a code that lets you download the game from a server is a physical license, a disk with the entire game that requires no additional downloads is a copy. Yes a physical copy can be broken and you aren’t entitled to a replacement, but a license can easily be revoked
@PCMR_Elitist@Pirat_Nation No you’ve never “needed” to buy both versions to get all the Pokemon because you could trade with friends, use a game genie, or wait for the enhanced edition that has all the Pokemon by default. Even if you did buy both you would still need 2 Game Boys to trade which is crazy $$$
@KevinFutura@Pirat_Nation One of a publisher’s main jobs is to handle the physical release of games. If there’s no physical release game studio’s can self publish their own games digitally and cut out publishers much more easily. If the entire industry goes digital only publishers could become obsolete
@frogpitgaming@Firebreather452 Well no that last part is illegal, sharing a backup copy of a game you legally purchased with someone else who hasn’t is piracy. Making a physical backup of a game you purchased legally for personal use is perfectly legal though
@Firebreather452 PC has multiple market places and lets you own games digitally by giving you a drm free installer depending on who you buy from. The problem isn’t physical media it’s ownership, PS just stole movies people paid full price to own, and are going to steal digital PS3/Vita games next
@ZHerkoo@ObiWanK95088527@Pirat_Nation Valve’s stance for years has been if people want companion cubes for personal use they can make one themselves, but Valve won’t be licensing or selling any. So unless they changed their stance I think it will be pretty hard to get Valve’s permission for that specifically
@ZHerkoo@ObiWanK95088527@Pirat_Nation I’m not so sure about that. This has happened several times and in one previous incident a company did actually reach out, but Valve wasn’t interested in licensing the companion cube at any point in the foreseeable future, so they did it anyway and got sued
@Pirat_Nation Valve has literally shut down multiple attempts by companies and individuals to sell Companion Cubes in the past because they didn’t get a license first. One company even went ahead and did it anyway after Valve refused to sell them a license so this isn’t surprising at all
@JessiexxYong@Pirat_Nation False advertising would only be if it can’t run at least one game in existence at 4K 60fps. The change they made was adding the words up to and the numbers 4.1 which aren’t changing the claim only clarifying it for people living in lala land that think it means every game
@BigLipRadio@FearMister@OverlyTrev@Dominos_UK Making your own physical backups of games you legally purchased solely for your own personal use isn’t pirating or illegal. That would require stealing or distributing a copy of the game for free, and making a physical copy would only be illegal if you distributed it to others
@CHelleaven@valvesoftware Setting aside individual financial situations, if all you want is a micro pc for gaming in the living room you don’t need to wait a year. Steam OS has been available for PC for a while now and only takes 20-30min to wipe and install hence the outrage being stupid
@gogerereaver@Pirat_Nation The Steam Machines release was delayed multiple times while Valve tried to figure out how to secure parts and what to do about the increased cost. However they were at the end of the cycle and ready to release. The PS6 is still on track for its original 2027 release
@strik3it@CHelleaven@valvesoftware So people can buy or build their own micro PCs and have pretty much the same experience isn’t pathetic it’s far more generous than any other company putting out gaming consoles. Also saying Valve letting people choose whether or not to buy it is perfectly ok isn’t being a fan boy
@strik3it@CHelleaven@valvesoftware Current hardware. Valve doesn’t do the same kind of mass production as Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. Valve selling the Steam Machine at cost, literally the same amount of money as it costs to make while giving away the one thing that makes it unique, it’s proprietary OS /2
@strik3it@CHelleaven@valvesoftware Yeah because there’s a hardware shortage driving prices sky high and making newer parts impossible to get even for other arms of the same companies making them, you need at least a multi year deal for units that will be used in mass production to have any chance of getting /1
@CHelleaven@valvesoftware Your own micro PC, install the same OS, and still have pretty much the same experience. So there’s absolutely no reason why Valve should lose money on the steam machine that they wouldn’t recoup for years and well into the next development cycle /5
@CHelleaven@valvesoftware You’re the one in need of a reality check as they aren’t making money off the Steam Machine they’re selling it at cost. The shortage makes regular long term production impossible for Valve to maintain, they also don’t just need to recoup hardware costs, but development costs /1
@CHelleaven@valvesoftware And even if he did have the money to sell it at a loss he’s already given away the one thing that separated the steam machine from other micro PCs, Valves proprietary OS. Gabe Newell has a8made sure that if you can’t afford the steam machine then, you can simply buy or build /4
