Today's harvest, a nice edible flower salad made from some things we've planted and others that are growing wild. Forage for pollinators and lovely food us too. πΈπ#pollinatorplants#edibleflowers#brighton#wildbees

Rosa 'William Lobb' seems to love our chalky soil. It's blooming magnificently and the scent is just divine. A beautiful rose for #RoseWednesday πΉ x
Foxgloves, bees and birdsong making their beautiful magic. We didn't get these foxgloves into the ground in time last year due to corona but wow look at them now :) πΈπ #plantsforpollinators#foxgloves#wildbees
Perennial evergreen Tree lupins were the first things we planted when we took on the plot, used to fix nitrogen, as forage for pollinators and as shelter from the wind for other plants. They are over 6 foot tall and this year their scent is really amazing #plantsforpollinators
We've planted lots of foxgloves for the pollinators and also as rabbit defence for other plants. Beautiful and multifunctional, it's so lovely seeing them in bloom now and full of bees. πΈπ
The International Forest Garden / Food Forest Symposium is running online 31 May-4 June. Many thanks to The Agroforestry Research Trust for the generous bursary to be able to attend, have learnt so much today already! #foodforests#forestgarden#resilience π΄
Our new wildlife pond is starting to really come alive. It's not totally finished yet, as we have some decking to add and lots more planting to do, but it's coming along nicely. We've found bumblebee's nesting beside it too :)ππ¦ #pond#biodiversity#StanmerPark#Brighton
We were invited to talk about wild bees and pollination at the Blossom Tour of Home Farm Orchard yesterday by @BPTpermaculture We saw lots of flower visitors in the Beauty of Bath apple trees and found mining bee nests. Thanks for a lovely day! #blossomtime#wildbees#apples πΈπ
Youth drone filming session yesterday on the plot. They did a fantastic job and will be filming here regularly, exploring the space through the seasons. Check out the film they made with a fab birds eye view of the new pond! https://t.co/qQNnXE9mmD #wildbee#stanmer#Brighton
Abraham-Isaac-Jacob/ Early-flowering borage /Trachystemon orientalis excellent forage for early native bees, flowering now until June, when the leaves take over as ground cover. Like borage, but a dry shade perennial, the flowers and leaves are edible too! #thebeesareback ππ
@TheGreenJeanie Ooh Jean I must get your book! It came up last year on our plot and it took me an age to find out what it was! I was so happy it was edible too. Perfect plant x
Some nice visitors to yesterday's (very very hot!) volunteer session. The hemp agrimony is in full bloom and bringing so much life with it. Rabbit proof and thriving even through drought and heatwave, it's such a wonderful wildflower. β€οΈπ¦ #wildflowers#hollyblue#hoverflies
We've had lots of butterfly visitors to the plot and are making sure to keep the wild plants growing that are attracting them. Its the last day of #BigButterflyCount so please join in if you can to help @savebutterflies get an idea of butterfly numbers this year. #butterflies π¦
Nature is full of surprises! Check out this absolute beauty we found yesterday on our plot- munching on some cherry tree leaves. Think it's a caterpillar of The Grey Dagger Moth?? @SussexMothGroup@btnhovewildlife
(?) Made our day- so lovely to find! #biodiversity#brighton π
