Climate Conditions: In July, precipitation was below normal in the western US, particularly in areas like northern California, the Northwest, Idaho, and Montana. Temperatures were above normal in much of the West, with drought intensifying in regions like the Appalachians, Northwest, and northern Rockies.
Outlook Predictions: The outlook for August to November forecasts above-normal temperatures for most of the US, with below-normal precipitation expected in the southwestern quarter and above-normal precipitation likely for the East Coast and parts of the Northwest. The transition from El Niño to La Niña is expected to influence weather patterns.
Significant Fire Potential: The outlook predicts above-normal significant fire potential in various regions like the Northwest, northern Great Basin, northern California, Idaho Panhandle, southwest Montana, central and southern California, north Texas, western Oklahoma, and Hawai’i. Normal potential is forecast for the Southwest in August, with some areas expected to have above-normal potential in September and October. The Southern Area is projected to have normal potential, except for Texas and Oklahoma, where above-normal potential is anticipated.

The United States is at National Preparedness Level 2, effective today at 07:30 MST.
There are a total of 6 UNCONTAINED LARGE FIRES currently. There are 4 new large fires in Arizona, New Mexico, Alaska, and Colorado. 4 large fires were contained in Arizona, Texas, Minnesota, and Colorado.
Nationally, 1fire is being managed under a strategy other than full suppression.
Red Flag Warnings are in effect for Delta Junction in Alaska. The Storm Prediction Center has issued an area of Elevated Fire Weather Concern for parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Texas.
