Self-injection is not simply about handing someone a device. It requires proper training and confidence in the correct procedure.
Good information builds confidence. Good counselling supports informed choice.

The Women X activation at Masese Landing Site focused on raising awareness of available family planning methods, including Sayana Press.
It helped women access accurate information so they can make informed decisions about their reproductive health.
#WomenX
Through direct community engagement at Masese Landing Site, women and men were encouraged to ask questions, understand how different family planning methods work, and get guidance from qualified health workers before choosing an option that suits them.

Women and residents at Masese Landing Site in Jinja recently took part in a community sensitisation activation under the Women X Project.
This gave them a chance to learn more about family planning in their own community.

A woman’s right to ask questions about family planning should be respected in every setting—pharmacies, drug shops, clinics, outreach sites, and health facilities. When she has information, she can make her own choice. When she has support, her confidence grows. #WomenX
Sayana Press became less about the injection and more about the space it created—to grow her business, raise her child, and choose the timing of her next pregnancy on her own terms.
Information that travels to the market can quietly rewrite a woman’s next few years.

In the middle of a busy market day, a short conversation gave Beatrice something she hadn’t had before: options that fit around her stall, her child, and her income. #WomenX
Self-injection with Sayana Press means she no longer has to choose between missing sales and missing a clinic visit.
When family planning meets women where they actually work, the planning gets practical.
Imagine planning a journey without a map. That’s what many of us do when we make family planning decisions without the facts.
The right information is your map. It shows your options, clears up the myths and helps you choose the path that fits your life, at your own pace. #EmpowerUG

Beatrice didn’t need another appointment that pulled her away from customers. She needed a method she could manage herself once she understood it.
That’s what the training on Sayana Press gave her—time back, and the freedom to decide when her next child fits into the life she’s building.
Sometimes the most useful health information is the kind that respects how hard a woman is already working.

Have you ever delayed going to the clinic because you were afraid of being judged? You’re not alone, but here’s the truth: trained, accredited providers are there to help you, not to judge you.

At Petronela Drug Shop in Nambaale, family planning is becoming easier to reach with support from the #WomenX Project and the Uganda Private Midwives Association.
“Receiving commodities at subsidised prices has made services more affordable for women here,” says Nurse Tusubira Joseph.
Training has strengthened counselling on DMPA-SC (Sayana Press), including side effects and self-injection. Clients who want to inject at home are shown the steps through practical demonstrations, so they can decide with clearer information and, where suitable, manage later doses themselves.
#YourLifeYourChoice
Never hand over a family planning method without information first. Counseling comes first.
A trained provider should explain the method, how to use it, possible side effects, when to return for follow-up, and when to seek more support. #WomenX
These conversations may seem simple, but they are essential to quality care.
Whether a woman chooses DMPA-SC or another method, she deserves accurate information so she can decide for herself.
Ask. Understand. Choose. #YourLifeYourChoice

It takes proper training for one to be able to use DMPA-SC (Sayana Press) correctly and with confidence. Good information coupled with counselling supports and leads to an informed choice. It is not just about handing someone a device and letting them figure the rest out.

The right information on sexual and reproductive health helps you make family planning decisions that fit your life.
Visit a health facility supported by the #EmpowerUG programme and talk to a qualified health worker. Learn how different methods work, possible side effects, and get guidance based on your needs.

Through this project, drug shops, pharmacies and clinics were mapped, trained and supported with hands-on mentorship covering counselling, eligibility screening, administration, self-injection, and managing or referring side effects.
Mentorship has also been key: training alone isn’t enough. It helps providers turn knowledge into consistent, quality practice.

According to Neymar Bajanga, a midwife and National Reproductive Health Trainer with the Uganda Private Midwives Association, #WomenX is about more than stocking DMPA-SC (Sayana Press). It’s about giving private providers the skills and confidence to deliver quality, informed care.
By strengthening private providers, supporting self-care and expanding affordable access, #WomenX is giving women more options, clearer information and greater control over their reproductive health.
Family planning is now closer to communities, so women can still get reliable services from participating private providers when public facilities run out of stock.
A co-payment/subsidy mechanism has made DMPA-SC more affordable for those who worry about cost.
“A woman should not have to interrupt her family planning simply because the government facility she normally visits has run out of stock.”
