@paulickreport This is a sign that hung in arena in North Texas of Jack Brainard, longtime friend of Lukas and guy who helped Lukas train his first race horse in MN many years ago. Jack died in 2021 at age 100. I met Lukas at the memorial service. Looks like a cat blew thru this sign...
I wrote about our experience at the World Nomad Games in Kazakhstan last September for @outsidemagazine. It's a game that reveals a deeply rooted aspect of the horse-human relationship...

@AmericanGwyn@ErikStorey@SydSteyerhart Good eye. Calls them herders... might be an incongruency with timing of cattle in Abilene, the Mexican longhorn-types hadn't really made it that far north in significant numbers by that point it think
@AmericanGwyn this thread is pretty telling re what people think of cowboys, how they define and interpret that word. fuck i wish i could muster the whatever to write a book on only this
@AmericanGwyn I think some part of him wished he went the cowboy way. He loved depth of trade, craft. During that interview in El Paso, he ordered black coffee and a charbroiled ribeye... for lunch.
@herdyshepherd1 Man, this is too cool... what a great tool. You're right, for exclusion as well as containment. Durability I guess would be a factor, and having good quiet cows so you can deal with the collars. Pretty cool
