10 years in hospitality taught me more about UGC than any course ever could.
Reading the room. anticipating needs. selling without selling. making people feel something in 30 seconds flat.
Brands hiring people first instincts always win over aesthetics.
@ugc_sarahd Totally 😂 forget the ring lights I absolutely upgraded to a few soft boxes lol. Sometimes the weather forecast is so inaccurate with the “variable clouds” but I haaadddd to laugh
A brand approaching you with an affiliate partnership still has a marketing budget. Flip the script if that doesn’t work for you and close a deal.
Show them what you can do for them instead of just being an affiliate.
Grateful for the power of negotiating and strategic selling I learned in hospitality 🤓

What I’ve learned lately… there’s a version of discipline that isn’t about grinding harder.
It’s about noticing the thing you’re doing manually every day and asking if it still needs to be you doing it.
Different for everyone but has freed up some bandwidth for more creating on my side 💪🏻 🧠

@chloemorgann0 Ooooooo that’s a good one lol. Thankfully there’s easy ways around all, just funny when it happens at the most hilariously inconvenient times 😂
HOOKS YOU DONT EXPECT for their niche. I love when SaaS clients let me tap into my energy and go outside the box with it and also lol at the pitch 😭 not the foghorn slowed down
What’s your favourite way to get creative with hooks?

A lot of creators say they want brand deals.
What they actually want is for brand deals to happen to them.
Growth without posting.
Community without engaging.
That's not how business works.
Your next opportunity is probably hiding behind an action you're avoiding.

Being a creator is finishing an edit in transit on your way to a friends birthday so you have a free evening lol.
Taking advantage of every free minute.. who’s with me? HAPPY SATURDAY ☀️

Hot take...
A personal brand doesn’t always mean being known for one thing.
Sometimes your brand is your cadence, humour, taste and POV.
Your ability to make people feel like they’re hearing from YOU and not just another creator.
People remember recognizable energy just as much as recognizable expertise 👀
Niching down is one way to build a brand.
Being unmistakably yourself is another. Stressing yourself trying to be known as "the _____" can hurt you and waste time if you can show up confidently, as YOU.

@justinbrianugc Honestly Toronto is ONLY fun in the summer and sometimes fall so .... canadian creators, if you know whats good... the 6ix is calling !!!! LMAO. Am i drake??? jeez!!
One thing I've had to accept and work around when being your own boss ..
Those 10-15k steps, filming, scripting, apartment upkeep, downtime, and maybe seeing loved ones?
It cant all happen in perfect balance. At leaaasstt in my experience.
Sometimes you lean into certain pockets more. Movement for me is non negotiable to clear and activate my creative mind, but trying to achieve that perfect "balance" every day just leads to burnout and disappointment. Motivation and energy is not linear
Do what you can and water those facets of yourself depending on the season. Show up anyways and release the idea that a clean cut balanced day exists.

Can I be really honest? 👀
I don’t practice what I preach about personal branding for my content creator business🫣
Yet, I do for my personal account.
Does that make sense?
Ok. Let me vent.
UGC is my side boo. Always has been. Always will be. For ME.
I do comedy full time. I love comedy. It’s my dream.
So, when I got into UGC in the midst of the pandemic it was a necessity, temporarily. But for ME it wasn’t the goal to build an empire or create an agency or any of that.
It’s been to generate an additional stream of income.
And I’ve done that. I do that.
Nonetheless, there’s only so much time in the day. I, just like you, have only so much bandwidth and I have to be intentional about where I place my energy and time.
So—my comedy/personal branding gets the bulk of the strategy. I’m creating and building and scaling and basically doing everything I coach and encourage over there.
And it’s working. Been working. Will continue to work.
lol so when people see my UGC IG page I’m like 🙃🫠🫥.
Because Truthfully, I only have time leftover to put examples over there, primarily because my content creator business is built on the back of Twitter and because I get sleepy too.
I guess what I’m saying is that 1) it’s okay if content creation is not your main squeeze. Maximize it as best as possible. 2) personal branding is IMO the main avenue to create the business you’re aiming. Whether that business is just to kill debt, or vacay more or you’re desiring to create a powerhouse machine. 3)it’s okay that you can only do so much. Take that pressure off your shoulders. Do what you can. Be proud of your effort.
This was really just a journal entry for me that I let you peek into— but hopefully someone hears this:
Control what you can control.
You’re doing great.
Keep GOING🙏🏾
@justinbrianugc Absolutely!!! Funnelling your own distinct energy through things you're naturally good at/ enjoy is absolutely a hack to have infinite things to discuss lol.
We need to do a Toronto linkup!!!!
"Natural light is all you need…"
AGREE, however … only between like 10am and 2pm by a north facing window in most seasons in Toronto lol.
My brain always wanted to argue with that tip because half the creators I know film in basements and rentals with sub optimal lighting.
Get the window. Then get a 60 dollar key light for everything else 💡
I believe both can be true.
Creators, what's a few things that have significantly upped your lighting game?
