The best part of working in advocacy is turning a vision into law!
Last week, Governor Phil Scott signed S.64 into law, expanding the scope of practice for optometrists and marking a major victory for eye care patients and providers across the state.
Winning Connections was proud to support the Vermont Optometric Association throughout the legislative process, helping build momentum to move the bill out of committee, secure votes in the Legislature, and ultimately get it across the finish line.
Successful advocacy is about more than passing policy; it’s about building relationships, educating citizens to contact lawmakers, and staying focused on the people who will benefit most. This new law will help improve access to high-quality eye care for Vermonters and strengthen the profession for years to come.

#Thread Artificial Intelligence has become an incredibly effective tool, transforming the way we live, work, and create. AI has the potential to improve lives in remarkable ways. But... (1/ )
We will keep a close eye on the NO FAKES Act’s progress as lawmakers work to move this important legislation forward. As AI transforms our economy, we’re grateful to play a part in protecting consumers and ensuring these tools are used for the public good. (4/ )
Tomorrow, June 16, DC has an important opportunity to help shape the future of our city.
We encourage DC voters to support these strong candidates for public office in the primary election:
- Kenyan McDuffie for DC Mayor
- Charles Allen for DC Council Ward 6
- Lisa Raymond for DC Council At-Large
These candidates bring the leadership, vision, and commitment needed to strengthen neighborhoods, improve public services, support economic opportunity, and ensure every DC resident has a voice in our city's future.
If you're eligible to vote in the June 16 primary election, make a plan to cast your ballot and encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to do the same!

A Win for Public Health in Knoxville!
The Knoxville City Council recently voted to pass a smoke-free ordinance, ensuring healthier indoor environments for workers, musicians, hospitality staff, and patrons across the community.

BREAKING: Today, the South Carolina Senate rejected a proposed redistricting plan that would have redrawn district lines in the middle of an election and slashed Black representation.
We were proud to be part of the fight against Trump's redistricting push and to help protect fair representation and voter access.
We remain committed to advancing policies that strengthen democratic participation for all Americans.

Last month, we worked to help pass the Utility RELIEF Act in Maryland, a landmark piece of legislation that invests in local clean energy, expands energy generation, and prevents utility corporations from passing unnecessary costs onto taxpayers. We’re excited that Governor Wes Moore officially signed the bill into law earlier this month!
This new law marks a major victory for Maryland families by helping lower monthly energy costs while advancing long-term climate solutions. At a time when rising gas prices and inflation continue to strain household budgets, legislation like the Utility RELIEF Act is critical to ensuring working families can keep more money in their pockets.
We’re proud to have supported this effort alongside @MDLCV, and we remain committed to advancing policies that protect consumers, strengthen communities, and make life more affordable for families across the state.

The FDA’s latest move to stop prioritizing enforcement against illegal flavored tobacco and vape products is deeply concerning, especially for those of us working to protect kids from tobacco.
The evidence is clear that flavored products are designed to attract young users. Candy, fruit, and mint flavors make it easier for children and teens to start using these products and harder to quit.
That’s why this recent shift in FDA enforcement is a step in the wrong direction.
Public health policies should prioritize protecting young people, not create more opportunities for the tobacco industry and black market sellers to hook the next generation. Weakening oversight risks undoing years of progress.

We’re incredibly proud to help Denise Powell win her primary election in Nebraska’s competitive "blue-dot" congressional districts.
When Powell entered the primary, the odds were stacked against her, with pre-election projections showing the campaign trailing by 26 points. But we got to work, calling thousands of voters across the district. By Election Day, Powell had closed the gap and won the race by 2 points!
We're excited she will be the nominee in one of the county's most competitive Congressional Districts this year, and we look forward to seeing the momentum carry into the general election this fall.

The bill would have weakened key protections under the ESA and made it harder to conserve species already at risk. While the fight is far from over, this moment reminds us of the importance of public engagement in advocacy.

Last month, public pressure helped force the removal of H.R. 1897 from a House floor vote after widespread opposition from advocates, scientists, and communities across the country. We're proud that our calls contributed to the groundswell of support for the Endangered Species Act.
As states across the country continue to redraw congressional maps mid-cycle, voters are being asked to navigate constantly shifting goalposts.
Whatever you want to call it, the speed and timing of these changes are creating real confusion for voters and major logistical challenges for election officials alike.
In several states, congressional maps are being redrawn while election cycles are already underway, forcing voters to determine whether they’re still in the same district, voting in the same races, or even represented by the same candidates. Election offices are scrambling to update systems, ballots, and voter information in real time.
At the core of democracy is confidence: confidence that your vote counts, confidence that you understand the process, and confidence that the rules aren’t changing faster than voters can keep up.
Regardless of political affiliation, constantly moving district lines risks undermining public trust and making civic participation more difficult. A healthy democracy should make participation easier, not more confusing.
