@EverettMW@CaptainADOS42@jake_oncall Delineation is just a proclamation of existence not separation. Without this proclamation there is a possibility of erasure of existence and history. We should never forget the history of the transatlantic slave trade.
@EverettMW@CaptainADOS42@jake_oncall That’s not what delineation is, at least to me. For example, the Bantu expansion created hundreds of new ethnicities, this doesn’t mean these new ethnicities aren’t directly nested in the proto-Bantu linguistic/cultural structure. Ie iron working, agro-pastoralists.
@CrunkedItUp@CaptainADOS42@RHenry40960@katieporterca That’s my point, you can’t. Humans have a maximum capacity for abstract thinking however, iq tests aren’t measuring this. Because I can teach you how to score well on iq tests. I can’t teach you a gorilla differential equations. I shouldn’t be able to teach you how to score well.
@CrunkedItUp@CaptainADOS42@RHenry40960@katieporterca If Einstein never finds an interest in physics, would his brain not be the same? Would his intelligence not be same? There is no logical argument for considering iq to be measuring intelligence. No matter what you can’t teach someone to process information like how his brains did
@CrunkedItUp@CaptainADOS42@RHenry40960@katieporterca The science is circular. Iq scores aren’t measuring intelligence. We can say that there is a gap. But you can’t explain that the mechanism behind the gap is a gap in intelligence. That’s the core issue of iq. Also there are multiple African/diaspora communities who score highly.
@CaptainADOS42@EverettMW@jake_oncall The important part he mentioned was an awareness of a shared struggle and need for liberation/self determination free of a supremacist structure. You can have reparations and still participate in pan Africanism. This isn’t an either or. Pan Africanism is an ideology.
@CaptainADOS42@EverettMW@jake_oncall Most non descendants if slaves who are black, who don’t support reparations for black Americans don’t have a good argument for this lack of support. Delineation for reparations is just fine and I believe should be supported.
@CaptainADOS42@EverettMW@jake_oncall I agree that “delineation” is important to some degree. I also think it’s just another fancy term for tribalism. You can create a sub-category for every category. You can delineate yourself until you’re the only one. Discussions should focus on the nature of the issues.
@Beyoku No problem with black actors playing black roles if they do justice to the role for me.
the nuance is certain experiences and history would add to the nuance that Hollywood doesn’t care about. The nature of some of these roles might require someone who’s closer to the experience
@Beyoku To me this is a non issue as to act requires you to play a role that’s not you to begin with. How good of an actor you are in the role is predicated on how immersed you are able to make the viewer feel. Racially black actors playing racially black doesn’t destroy immersion.
@LynnF4106@Beyoku If you read, you would see this requires academic excellence. 3.5 gpa AND a 28 ACT. These are black men who can do more than just read. Given that they have to excel far above the nation’s averages. Lack of reading proficiency on the other hand, is a nation issue.
@BreakingBrown It is though. Another message of pan africanism is focusing on local communities as well. In order to help globally you also have to participate in your closest communities. Where have you been that you havnt heard Congo, Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, etc, discussed?
