Gruet / New Mexico / celebrating 100 years on
being on Route 66, with Brut 66 / 70% Chardonnay /

like it a lot / make it year-round guys! / Cheers!
What a label. Soon, it will be impossible to become a person. Everyone to become Nietzsche's Last Man. Barrel fermented old-vine Malvasia from Toro. Some of the vines are pre-phylloxera. Creamy, good acidity & 👌 balanced, with notes of pear, quince, peach, vanilla, spice & anise
This is not my first time with this 2011 Blaufränkisch, and it won't be my last either. From the Pittnauers in Gols. In 2023, I wrote that it had the parameters of a Chinon and the spectrum of a Côte-Rôtie—and it still does.
Did you know? Cork usage declined after the fall of the Roman Empire, with many vintners using oil-soaked rags or wooden plugs. Wine corks only returned into widespread use in the 17th century, driven by English advances in glassmaking.

palatal adventure here with a blend of equal parts Nerello Mascalese, Perricone, and Syrah / Sicily /
some age (2019) showing on the rim / balanced tannin and acid / deep, stew-like red fruits yet lifted by

expression of the grape / Cheers!
Chinese wine tonight! From the eastern foothills of the Helan Mountains in Ningxia. It's good value for £16—the first Chinese wine that @TheWineSociety has ever stocked. But I regret the inclusion of Dunkelfelder to the Bordeaux blend, as it does taste a bit 'teinturier'.
When I toured NZ two years ago, the Abel Chardonnay was my go-to in restaurants. This is a new vintage to me & it's just as impressive, with more matchstick & popcorn than the 2020. Blind, you'd have to be in Puligny-Montrachet—but it's from Upper Moutere, #Nelson
