Thank you to everyone who has shown interest in my sculpture. I began planning the World Museum of Birds in 2004. Twenty years has 'flown" by (pun intended). π Special thanks to my daughter for unwavering support. There is no doubt I will achieve 400 life size species in 2024.
For the Desert Exhibit I wanted a Saguaro to show the Gila and Gilded, so I made one. 80 inches tall, 10" diameter, 20 ribs, starting arm(limb), 6000 paint spots, 11 flower buds/blossoms. Whew!- Lot of work. π₯΄The Caracara just happened by as I took the picture.π€£
Indigenous people would cook the nestling to obtain oil, hence the name. The young birds can be up to double the weight of and adult, because of high body fat.
Oilbird.

Oilbird - 37 inch wingspan.
For the tropical woodlands exhibit. At one end, I will paint the mural as a night scene and will construct a rock wall with cave opening.
Very unique in the bird world, these are the only fruit eating, flying, nocturnal species that uses echolocation.
Oilbird β 18 inches long
In my many years as a bird sculptor, I have done three of these beauties. This one was donated to the San Diego Museum of Natural History in 2000. I started visiting their bird exhibit when I was 15.
Elegant Tern - 16" long - 32-inch wingspan.

There are approx.. 48 million bird watchers in the USA alone. If only ONE percent of them donated $3, I would have enough to build the greatest bird museum ever. I currently have 331 life size species ready to display

These cute little water birds have a role reversal compared to most other species. She pursues and fights for a male partner and then leaves him to incubate the eggs and raise the young, leaving her free to go find another boyfriend.
