Dick even talked dragged his eyes back to the tv, actually watching it this time rather than just staring at the screen. He felt a little lighter as they still held hands.
Wally gave a knowing smile and decided to relax while going back to watch the movie. It had now reached the Darth Vader eliminating the trade federation on Mustafar.
Still, Wally didn't let go of Dick's hand. He would never leave him again.
Dick nodded. He wanted to say more but he couldn’t. It just kept getting trapped in his throat. He let out a heavy sigh, leaning his head back and looking up to the ceiling, still holding Wally’s hand.
Wally nodded and gave Dick's hand a gentle squeeze.
"I know. I'll always be here for you, Dick. The same way you were for me. You need anything, man... just say."
He sounded very earnest. Like he'd do anything for Dick, no matter what.
Just tired today might stay in my room unless someone asks me to go out but even then I’ve had 6 cups of coffee within the span of 5 hours I need to work
Dick looked down at their hands, he held Wally’s hand back. He looked up at him. Dick looked tired, mentally.
“I really appreciate you….you know that right?…”
Dick swallowed hard, trying to keep himself calm and composed.
Wally's smile faltered again, so did his shields.
"I know. When things come crashing down, you try your best to be strong for us all and yet..." He shook his head. "You're the strongest person I've ever known. But that doesn't mean you have to do this alone."
He took his hand.
Dick nodded. He knew the smile was a shield. And then that’s when the anxiety set in AGAIN, worried that saying something had fucked it up.
“It’s…been really great having you here. I…was really scared, you know?”
Dick admitting he was scared didn’t come often. This was big.
Wally blinked and stared at Dick, and Dick would see a look of familiar... fear. Which was immediately shielded by his warm smile that made Dick's heart skip.
"I get it. I do. Because after everything that happened to me, having you welcome me here? It felt like coming home."
Dick let out a long breath, one that he’d possibly been metaphorically been holding for way too long.
“I think maybe…I care about you more than I should. More than what’s safe. And now I’ve noticed this I’m so afraid of fucking up. But there I go and ruin the mood. As per.”
Dick stared at Wally in awe, he should’ve expected that Wally, out of everyone, understood him. But yet here he was.
“Yeah I…really feel that…”
He admitted, his posture now less defensive.
"I know that. Too well, in fact. I'd dare say I'm so scared of fucking up that sometimes my emotions get the best of me and are just... confusing me."
A rare moment of weakness where Wally wasn't using his jokester persona to 'run away'.
Dick kinda just sank into the couch. He leaned his head back, his eyes closing.
“Are you ever just…so scared of fucking something up that you DO genuinely fuck it up? Happens a lot to me. A little too often”
Dick snapped out of it, blinking slightly before looking at Wally
“Huh? Sorry…I uh…I didn’t catch that”
He let out a small sigh, running a hand through his hair.
“I just kinda…zoned out there my bad, Walls. I missed the line didn’t I…”
Wally in the meantime was making more remarks about the movie, but they fell on deaf ears. When he saw Dick didn't even respond to the "I am the Senate!" line, he gently poked him.
"Earth to Dick. Are you alright, dude?" he asked softly, a look of concern on his face.
Dick couldn’t help the guilt pooling up in his stomach as the once playful atmosphere had died out, because of him.
He swallowed hard, not exactly watching the movie, just staring at the TV. Jesus Dick pull yourself together. He was frozen to the spot.
Wally didn't push further. He always gave Dick space to collect his thoughts. Hell, he'd done the same when Dick came to him after Jason died. Thay was just the kind of guy Wally was. Perhaps it's why it hurt losing him too all those years ago.
They watched the movie in silence.
Dick looked over, he sighed heavily. He ran a hand through his hair.
“I dunno I just….you know what I think I’m probably just tired. That might be it”
He looked back to the TV, biting the inside of his cheek
“Probably just not thinking straight”
Wally smile faltered. "C'mon, dude. I know you better than this. Hell, I /know/ you, period. You can pull this kind of superficial bullshit with the rest of the team," He got up to face Dick at the same eye level, "but not /me/."

This is where Dick fell |silent|. He swallowed hard, and for a moment he said nothing. His heart hammered in his chest. He sat up, getting off Wally
“Yeah I…I feel the same. Very lucky to have you as my best friend”
Hm, convincing.
Cue a giggle. "Heh, of course. I'm the luckiest guy alive to have you as a best friend. Couldn't have asked for someone with a bigger heart."
A challenge next. "But what about you, Dick? How do you feel about me?"
