Park Avenue Refresh 🦚 wall caps are installed & pots have arrived!
New decorative pots have been installed along Park Avenue between Swoope & Garfield avenues, adding pops of color while also serving an important safety function. These reinforced planters double as protective bollards, helping create separation between vehicles & pedestrian areas while complementing the charm of the Avenue. Seasonal plantings will fill these pots beginning the week of September 14.
The raised brick planter beds are also getting their finishing touches. New stone wall caps have been installed, & the beds are being planted with Liriope & other seasonal landscaping, adding fresh greenery & more color to the Avenue.
During the construction phases, Park Avenue and its businesses remain open for shopping, dining, and strolling. Our incredible local merchants, museums & restaurants are open, accessible & ready to welcome you.

Congratulations 🎉 to Winter Park Electric!
The City of Winter Park Electric Utility received an American Public Power Association E.F. Scattergood System Achievement Award during the American Public Power Association’s National Conference in Boston, Massachusetts. The award honors APPA member systems that have enhanced the prestige of public power utilities through sustained achievement and customer service.
The youngest public power utility in Florida, City of Winter Park Electric Utility, has worked effectively to address concerns of reliability and cost for its 15,000 customers. Established in 2005, the utility has generated more than $135 million in financial benefits & has maintained a SAIDI below 60 minutes for nine consecutive years. Its long-term undergrounding project delivered measurable results during Hurricane Milton, when only 250 customers lost power & all service was restored within 12 hours, far outperforming neighboring systems. The utility’s commitment to community & mutual aid is reflected in numerous awards from the Florida Municipal Electric Association.

Congrats to @WinterParkFla for receiving a '25 Building Strong Communities Award. By hosting a community celebration commemorating the 20th anniversary of providing electric service to its customers & thru participating in community enrichment programs for students, it exemplifies its commitment to improving the local #FLPublicPower community.
The City of Winter Park’s Electric Utility team has earned national recognition from the @publicpowerorg with a Diamond-level Safety Award. 🏆 Earning Diamond-level status means our Electric Utility team is performing at the highest standard in the nation.
Award criteria are based on both safety performance & the strength of a utility’s safety program. Metrics like Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) and Days Away, Restricted or Transferred (DART) rates account for 60% of the score, while 40% evaluates training, inspections & overall safety culture. Utilities are also grouped by worker-hours to ensure fair comparisons among similar-sized organizations.
This honor reflects more than just strong numbers; it's a culture of safe work behavior. It recognizes a deep, ongoing commitment to safety across every level of the team.
We’re incredibly proud of this team & the work they do to power Winter Park safely & reliably. ⚡💙
