Atp I really have to respect Myanmar people for standing their ground and demanding respect for their culture unlike some of our Indian fans
I really dont understand why anyone who is an Indian would follow this racist Force
He not only insulted but also made a thread (1)
Myanmar fans only want to protect our culture peacefully. We raised concerns @GMMTV since the trailer dropped but got no response. Now, fans face threats just for speaking up. Protecting our culture is NOT starting a war. ‼️

Statement on the Costume Design and Artistic Elements in “Scarlet Heart Thailand”
#ScarletHeartTH@ScarletHeartTH#GMMTV
Hello, guys!
I usually stay out of controversies. But with everything that’s been going on lately regarding Scarlett Heart, a series produced by GMMTV that features what appear to be traditional Burmese costumes, I have a few things I’d like to speak up about.
First of all, the costumes worn in this series, especially those worn by the female characters, are specifically associated with Myanmar’s Konbaung Dynasty, more precisely, the Yadanabon Period, which lasted from 1857 to 1885.
Now, let’s talk about something Thai people often bring up. One common argument is that Myanmar once colonized or conquered Thai kingdoms, and that’s why Burmese culture had such a strong influence on Thai culture.
Well, let’s take a closer look at that argument.
Historically, Burmese kingdoms conquered and controlled the Siamese kingdom during two major periods.
The first was during the Toungoo Dynasty, particularly under King Bayinnaung. This period of expansion began in the late 15th century and reached its height in the 16th century, with Burmese dominance over Ayutthaya coming to an end in the late 16th century.
However, the clothing styles of the Toungoo Period and those of the Konbaung Dynasty were separated by more than three centuries. Naturally, Burmese fashion, cultural practices, and artistic styles had undergone significant changes over that time.
So, when the costumes shown in this series are specifically associated with the Yadanabon Period, it raises a very reasonable question: How can these costumes automatically be attributed to Thai culture simply because Burmese kingdoms once conquered Siam centuries earlier?
Now, let’s look at the second period of Burmese expansion into Siam.
This took place during the early Konbaung Dynasty, founded by King Alaungpaya, whose reign began in 1752 and ended in 1760. The early Konbaung Period itself lasted until 1782, marking the transition to the next phase of the dynasty.
Even this period was decades before the Yadanabon Period, which began in 1857. That means there was still a considerable gap between the two periods.
Myanmar has a long and rich cultural history. Our clothing, accessories, architecture, and other forms of art and cultural expression have evolved significantly across different dynasties and even within the same dynasty.
That’s why the argument that Burmese culture must have influenced Thai culture in every instance simply because Siam was once under Burmese rule doesn’t automatically hold up when we look at the historical timeline.
History is much more complicated than that.
Now, when it comes to Lanna culture, I fully acknowledge that it has historical and cultural connections with the cultures of Shan State in Myanmar. There are shared influences and connections between these regions, and I have absolutely no problem acknowledging that.
However, that is not the same as saying that Lanna culture is Burmese culture. Lanna culture and Bamar culture are not the same thing, and we shouldn’t simply lump them together as if they were interchangeable.
Myanmar itself was under British colonial rule for more than a century. I’m not denying that such a long period of colonial rule had an influence on our culture. Of course, cultural influences happen when different societies interact over long periods of time.
But we Burmese people have always understood the importance of distinguishing our own cultural heritage from that of others. We didn’t simply take British cultural elements and blindly claim them as our own.
During the colonial era, when people were concerned about losing their national identity and cultural traditions, a well-known nationalist slogan emerged:
“Myanmar is our land. The Burmese language is our language. Love our country. Respect our language.”
The message was simple: we needed to preserve our own identity, language, and cultural heritage, even under foreign rule.
And that brings me to my main point.
Now that we’re living in 2026, I believe it’s time for some Thai people to seriously reflect on the tendency to blur the lines between different cultures and claim other people’s cultural heritage as their own without properly acknowledging its origins.
Cultural exchange is one thing. Sharing influences across borders is completely normal. But cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation are not the same thing. If something comes from another culture, the least we can do is acknowledge that culture and give credit where it’s due.
At the moment, Myanmar is facing countless challenges and serious problems of its own. Our people already have so much to deal with.
So I’m asking Thai people, from the bottom of my heart, to please stop taking advantage of our situation or assuming that you can disrespect us without consequences simply because our country is currently struggling.
Please treat the people of Myanmar with respect, fairness, and basic human decency.
We’re not asking for anything unreasonable. We’re simply asking for our culture to be respected, our heritage to be acknowledged, and our people to be treated with the dignity they deserve.
Thank you
Khant BanyarAung
