Odd text messages prompt concern as Maui woman reported missing in Los Angeles
A Maui family is desperately searching for 30-year-old Hannah Kobayashi, who went missing during a trip to New York City.
Hannah left Maui on Nov. 8, planning to visit her aunt in New York. She was supposed to connect through Los Angeles but never made her flight. “I texted her, ‘Are you in New York yet?’ and she replied, ‘Not yet.’ But her flight had already landed,” said her mother, Brandi Yee.
The last sign of Hannah was on Nov. 11, when friends received alarming texts from her phone, claiming she had been tricked into giving away her money. Her phone has been off since then, with the last location showing her at LAX.
“She sent cryptic messages that didn’t sound like her,” said her sister, Sydni Kobayashi.
