The UK war on VPNs is an embarassment. For child safety, we should be teaching children about Internet safety - including why you should use a VPN to protect your privacy, block malware, etc.

🚨 Oh … the media mostly ignored this.

On 21 January 2026, the House of Lords ALSO voted in favour of an amendment that would ban VPNs for under-18s by forcing providers to apply “highly effective age assurance”.

There is no way to enforce age assurance on VPNs without identity verification.

Once VPNs require ID, anonymous browsing and anonymous access to information are over.

State control of political information they don’t want you to see starts here.

• expansion of Ofcom’s regulatory reach
• platform compliance over user rights
• erosion of online anonymity
• normalisation of digital ID
• private companies acting as state enforcers

Once access to information depends on who you are, free speech becomes even more conditional.

And conditional rights aren’t rights at all 🚨
