30 years ago today Garda Jerry McCabe was murdered by the Provisional IRA, a terrorist organisation linked to Sinn Fein who engaged in a campaign of murder that Mary Lou McDonald claimed was “justified” in 2020.

There is no mention of him on Mary Lou McDonald’s timeline. No mark for the anniversary of his murder. No call for truth and justice for his family. No demands for anyone with information to go to the authorities.

My thoughts are with his widow Ann McCabe, who accepted the Walter Scott Medal for Valour on behalf of her husband in 2000, the highest honour that can be bestowed on a Garda.

Northern Ireland can no longer be the outlier in the UK on hunting wild mammals with dogs.

Hunting animals for fun, or defending cruelty on the basis of tradition, is not acceptable.

I support the principle of this Bill and believe it should progress to further scrutiny.
