🚨If Metro is not Funded: (a🧵)
- Childhood asthma rates would increase
- Development would continue to sprawl, away from TOD and the city core
- School truancy rates would likely increase
- Loss of foot traffic among key DC commercial corridors
@FifthCrichton@maxdubler i think he just wanted to dunk on the admittedly ridiculous fake graffiti $25 burger joints that many cities have in like an old urban warehouse or factory. unless someone lives in like manhattan or malibu i bet you there’s some boarded up place nearby some teens are exploring
@FifthCrichton@maxdubler yeah it’s like a rust belt/appalachian teen subculture almost. i had an ex when i was 19 who took me to an abandoned factory in cleveland once. it was cool until we came across someone living in the rafters and we bolted
@maxdubler@mlewyn it’s really not. what happened in Detroit happened at scale in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, parts of Chicago, smaller cities like Gary, Youngstown, Portsmouth, Camden, and Akron, and to a lesser extent Cincinnati, KC, Milwaukee, and probably more
@derrickvanorden Rep. Van Orden, I was in the choir at your daughter’s funeral. she was a lovely woman who died far too young. what you have done with glee for millions of americans is disgusting, her faith that she expressed so beautifully at the end—“for i was sick”—has not touched your heart
@davidbfitz13@derrickvanorden that’s very dark and rude. i only wish that the world-class treatment she had at Johns Hopkins would be available no matter the size of one’s pocketbook
@DrewSmith_33@derrickvanorden i do not know why he is a cruel person, but i believe in healthcare for everyone even those who aren’t Hollywood Congresspeople. I respect the man’s military service but his record as an elected has been devoid of any moral compass
@RebeccaforWI I sang in the choir at Van Orden’s daughter’s funeral a year ago. she seemed like a lovely woman who died too young of cancer; imagine if she had to endure what this guy is doing to millions of Americans’ healthcare. shame on him and the GOP.
