Some personal news: after 13 years, I’m moving on to the next chapter.
Details to follow soon, but for now, a massive thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. 👇
Risultato: declino saldamente in controllo. Posizioni estreme sempre più richieste, declino può anche accelerare.
Dove sbaglio?
@ragipsoylu Comedy if not tragic: Erdoğan shuts down İstanbul Bilgi University by decree, students protest for three days then the government quietly reopens it. Institutional governance by impulse and retreat.

The crackdown against #Turkey’s main opposition #CHP has gone into full swing with a new wave of arrests, deepening pressure on the party’s leadership and elected officials.👇
The decimation of Turkey’s main opposition CHP is in full swing. 13 party officials have been arrested in connection with alleged vote rigging in the election of party leader Ozgur Ozel in 2023. Özel was ousted through a court ruling on Thursday based on the same claim. Further arrests are likely with mounting speculation that Ozel might be next. They would join over a dozen deposed/jailed CHP mayors including Istanbul mayor, Ekrem İmamoğlu.
Erdogan’s Turkey is now closing universities for no clear reasons!

No coherence. No predictability. You can't build a global financial hub with one hand while dismantling institutional stability with the other.
#bilgiüniversitesikapatıldı
#Turkey’s policy in a nutshell: passing a sweeping 20-year tax package to woo global investors, while simultaneously shutting down a major university mid-semester by executive decree.
The outcome of the emergency meeting of the financial stability committee: zero details. Press release talks about resilient economy, sound policy framework and pledge to take all necessary steps..... Living in a parallel reality
However, the message of the last 24 hours is clear: as economic pressures mount, the political space will be compressed by any means necessary to ensure absolute survival of #Erdoğan's regime.

Ankara's playbook is running on loop this morning. After a 24-hour blitz ousting the CHP leadership and seizing civic assets, an emergency economic meeting is underway.
The likely strategy? Blame external factors for Lira pressure, promise phantom reforms, and quiet down capital flight with stealth regulatory controls.
Bilgi today, another university tomorrow. A country that shuts down universities by decree and suffocates academic freedom is a country choosing fear over knowledge. No nation can build a future while dismantling the institutions that create it.

Turkey in 24 hours:
• Court sacks main opposition leader
• The Central Bank sells nearly $8bn to stop the panics in the markets
• Erdogan closes Bilgi University in the middle of the academic term
• He also bans municipalities from establishing new companies
Great timing for the comedy show👇
Clearly, political repression and economic marketing are out of sync, despite the many years of practice by Erdoğan and his sycophants.
Cumhurbaşkanlığı İletişim Başkanlığımız ile Cumhurbaşkanlığı Yatırım ve Finans Ofisi tarafından “Türkiye Yüzyılında Yatırım ve Finans” programı yarın İstanbul’da düzenlenecektir.
Program akışı ⬇️
Pro-AKP newspapers spent days signalling that the anti-CHP court ruling was imminent. Then Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu released a video yesterday declaring “I am here.”
And today, the court delivers exactly the outcome everyone had been telegraphing in advance
At this point, Şimşek will likely have to find yet another “exogenous factor” to argue that his “programme” remains on track; regardless of how often the political cycle rewrites the assumptions underneath it.
Removing the leader of #Turkey’s main opposition party through the courts in the middle of an investor roadshow in London shows, once again, that #Erdoğan’s personal political agenda trumps everything else.
