I suppose its a Pavlovian reaction- We laugh at celebs losing their shit with Blobby, so Blobby's appearance triggers that reaction.

@PeachSaliva The thing about Mr. Blobby is it shows how fucking stupid us Brits are. Originally, it was part of a series of pranks. Celebrities were invited onto a (fake) kids TV show to show Mr Blobby what they did. Blobby would then prat-fall and test the patience of the mark

@PeachSaliva The design of Blobby was deliberately stupid- a hideous parody of Barney, the Teletubies or H.R. Pufnstuf, something children would never actually want to watch. Likewise the "show" they staged looked deliberately cheap.
It's like scarring someone with a rubber snake...
