We hope you had a fun and fire safe March Break! Schools were on a break but the learning didn't stop. Fire safety is an important topic every child should understand from an early age. Teaching children fire safety equips them with potentially life-saving know how.
Cooking or baking together this March Break? Teach children to stay away from anything that can get hot. They can be seriously injured by cooking appliances, hot food, and hot drinks. Keep kids safe by having a 1 metre "kid-free zone" around hot things.
Have young children at home this March Break? Teach them to never touch matches or lighters and to tell a grown-up if they find them. Keep all fire starting tools out of the sight and reach of children, preferably in a locked cabinet. Matches and lighters are tools, not toys.
Looking for some March Break fun? We have some for you!

When you change your clocks, don't forget to check/change the batteries in all your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Test smoke alarms every month and replace batteries at least once a year. Get new smoke alarms every 10 years. Smoke alarms do not last forever!
Practice fire safety while travelling, just like you do at home.
β Never sleep anywhere without working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
β Know the fire escape plan.
β Locate emergency exits.

The large clock tower located in Elmira with its hourly bells used to be the Township hall. It features elements of Classical and Italianate style and looks like many other public buildings of its time. It was built in 1914 and designated in 2009.

Did you know that fuel-burning appliances like furnaces, fireplaces, and stoves can emit an odourless, colourless, and toxic gas called carbon monoxide? Install a carbon monoxide alarm on each level of your home and outside every sleeping area! Only working alarms save lives.
