Along the way, they met many people who offered them food, shelter, friendship, and help. These experiences strengthened their belief that most people in the world are kind and helpful.

Near Danghara in Tajikistan, they were traveling with other international cyclists when a vehicle hit the group. Officials later called it a well-planned terrorist attack. In this attack, J., Lauren, and two other cyclists lost their lives.

Later, ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, and Tajik authorities launched an investigation against the suspects.
This tragedy shook the world, but it could not erase the message of J and Lauren. Their story still reminds us that a horrific event cannot destroy the countless human virtues that they experienced on their journey.
