If I see a trope that DOES not belong, then yes it is a bad mechanism. The armor, the ship, the casting, the accents, the music, the changes to the plot are not "bad" in themselves, but they did not belong here, therefore they were BAD HERE.

Do not try and replace Peter Parker with Miles. This did not work with #Batman, #CaptainAmerica (With Bucky and with Sam), The Flash, Optimus Prime , Duke etc. Replacing a character NEVER ends well. You can have them in addition to the main character, but the Flash will always be Berry Allan, Batman will always be Bruce Wayne, Captain America will always be Steve Rogers, and #Spiderman will always be Peter Parker.

Most people are not fans of the Multiverse OR passing of the mantle.
