World Rowing is pleased to announce the eight teams that will compete in the first-ever World Rowing Shanghai Sprints (WRSS), taking place on 26–27 September 2026 in downtown Shanghai. The event brings a new, high-speed racing format to the international rowing calendar, designed as a dynamic showcase for the sport, featuring head-to-head 500-metre sprint racing across six boat classes.

Two-time Olympian, Olympic silver medallist and three-time World Champion, already the success for 27-year-old Andrea Panizza is measurable and extensive. The Italian rower also recently was named as part of the World Rowing Men’s Crew of the Year, and will be competing in the upcoming 2026 World Rowing Virtual Indoor Championships, presented by Concept2. He is the February 2026 Rower of the Month.

More than 2,300 athletes from 72 nations will compete in events over 1 min, 1000m, or 5000m individually or as part of a relay team racing 1000m or 5000m.

The 2026 World Rowing Masters Regatta will take place at Lake Bled from 9 to 13 September 2026, bringing Masters Rowing to a venue with a long history in International Rowing. Entries for the regatta are now open, with the entry deadline set for 31 July.

2️⃣4️⃣ The 2025 World Rowing Masters Regatta saw five days of thrilling racing, camaraderie, and celebration on Lake Banyoles – the Olympic Rowing venue of the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games.
The overall club trophy was awarded to Sport Club Corinthians Paulista of Brazil. The Brazilian club secured the honours for the second consecutive year, underlining their depth and strength across many boat classes.
The main highlight was the performance of Odilon Maia Martins, the oldest competitor of the event (96 years) who raced twice in Banyoles. An inspiration for us all.

2️⃣3️⃣ At the end of the 2025 World Rowing Cup series, after regattas in Varese and Lucerne, a total of nine nations picked up individual event trophies.
Great Britain, overall winners of the 2025 World Rowing Cup series, added the titles for the women’s single sculls and men’s quadruple sculls. Lauren Henry won the single both in Varese and Lucerne to finish with a maximum of 16 points.
The British men’s quad picked up bronze in Varese and added a superb gold in Lucerne. Cedol Dafydd, Matthew Haywood and Rory Harris were joined by Callum Dixon in Lucerne; Dixon was unwell in Varese and was replaced by Tom Barras.

2️⃣1️⃣ The inaugural World Rowing Virtual Series came to a close in October, marking the end of a four-month journey that brought together hundreds of Indoor and Connected rowers from around the world.
Launched earlier this year as a new initiative to bring the Indoor/Connected Rowing community closer through digital participation, the first edition of the Virtual Series proved to be a success. More than 300 competitors took part across four monthly challenges, highlighting the growing diversity and inclusivity of Indoor/Connected Rowing — from seasoned Indoor Rowing athletes to fitness enthusiasts discovering the sport for the first time.
