Yes, this! Brings to mind a similar contrast in coverage in 1985/1986 between coverage of an earthquake in Mexico (10,000 died) & the explosion on the Challenger (7). Both tragic, but...

Must be happening pretty widely, because there are facilities in Illinois that keep locking down because they're 'short staffed.' Unjust and inhumane! #Abolition
“Years ago, anthropologist Margaret Mead was asked by a student what she considered to be the first sign of civilization in a culture. The student expected Mead to talk about fishhooks or clay pots or grinding stones.
But no. Mead said that the first sign of civilization in an ancient culture was a femur (thighbone) that had been broken and then healed. Mead explained that in the animal kingdom, if you break your leg, you die. You cannot run from danger, get to the river for a drink or hunt for food. You are meat for prowling beasts. No animal survives a broken leg long enough for the bone to heal.
A broken femur that has healed is evidence that someone has taken time to stay with the one who fell, has bound up the wound, has carried the person to safety and has tended the person through recovery. Helping someone else through difficulty is where civilization starts, Mead said.
We are at our best when we serve others.”

New York is sadly not unique. The carceral system is violent and broken. Prisons don't accomplish what citizens think they do. #Humanity

@THRILLERGIRLSBC I am also very good at acquiring books. Hope to get a few read this summer. Good to know others struggle with this addiction as well.🤓📚💡
Tina Turner was an icon, whom we loved for her voice, her dancing, and her spirit. As we honor her, let’s also reflect on her resilience, and think about all the greatness that can follow our darkest days. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us, Tina. You’re simply the best.
On this day in 1796, a newspaper ad was placed seeking the return of an enslaved Black woman, Ms. Judge, who fled George Washington's household while in Pennsylvania. To overcome racial inequality, we must confront our history. https://t.co/9Y55FSpUgu
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but reforming the criminal legal system won’t lead to more crime. Have we learned nothing from the “tough on crime” policies that failed in the past?
@glennEmartin I buy cards on the regular (even though they're expensive). Birthday, encouragement, graduation, love, and blank cards just because. People need to know they are loved!
