More than seven decades later, Balkrishna Sadashiv “Appa” Parab is 86, and he has kept that promise.

He has explored 250 forts associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, turning every expedition into a journey through history.

But this journey was never easy.
After his father’s death, Appa delivered newspapers, worked in bookshops and a mill, and later sold old books and magazines to support his family.

Yet he never abandoned the forts.
He went on to write 34 books, with six more awaiting publication, and guided countless people and institutions across Maharashtra through fort explorations, without accepting a single rupee in honorarium.

His wife and children stood by him through the financial strain his mission sometimes brought home.

And perhaps the most beautiful part of his legacy is what he passed on beyond history: values.
