June is #PTSDAwarenessMonth.
PTSD can impact anyone, especially those who regularly witness traumatic, life-threatening or deeply distressing events. #OPP officers across #Ontario are often the first on scene, responding to situations most people never have to face. Early intervention is crucial when treating mental health conditions such as PTSD. Evidence-based treatment plans can be highly effective in helping individuals manage symptoms, build resilience and support long-term recovery.

Yesterday in Charlottetown, #hfxfirefighters Vice President and Atlantic Provinces Professional Fire Fighters Association President Joe Triff participated as a panellist at the Wounded Warriors Canada First Responder Mental Health Conference, co-hosted by Trillium Health Partners – Insight Health Solutions.
Joe spoke about the lack of appropriate mental health resources available to many fire fighters and the impact staffing and deployment decisions can have on member well-being. As an example, he highlighted that the Capital City of PEI relies on just three full-time fire fighters daily—well below recognized industry standards and best practices.
When fire fighters are continually asked to do more with less, it affects more than emergency response. It takes a toll on the mental health and well-being of those who answer the call.
Thank you to Wounded Warriors Canada, Trillium Health Partners, and all conference sponsors for bringing attention to this important issue.

Today @SenRPatterson & I proudly hosted the 13th annual Sam Sharpe breakfast in support of veterans' mental health. The 200+ attendees were inspired by @RCMP Sgt (ret) Laurie White sharing her personal story. Thx to our incredible sponsors @WoundWarriorCA & @Bell_LetsTalk.
An inspiring story of service and recovery from former RCMP officer Laurie White at the Sam Sharpe Mental Health breakfast in Ottawa. Thanks @AlexRuff17@SenRPatterson@WoundWarriorCA@Bell_LetsTalk along with the Veterans Affairs & Defence Ministers for a great event. 🇨🇦
Thank you to @WoundWarriorCA@AlexRuff17 and @SenRPatterson for inviting us to the Annual Sam Sharpe breakfast, an event that raises awareness for Veterans Mental Health.
During Mental Health Week, we are proud to share the story of Chris Veech.
After 25 years as a correctional officer, Chris was carrying the mental and physical weight of his profession. Through our Trauma Resiliency Training (TRT), he found the tools to move from survival to strength - and went on to graduate from our Train the Trainer program to help his peers.
Chris’s journey is a powerful reminder that mental health education is essential for the long-term health of our Trauma Exposed Professionals.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who stood in solidarity this afternoon to honour #OPP Sergeant Brandon Malcolm. The overwhelming number of community members and emergency services personnel lining the Highway 401 overpasses was a powerful and deeply moving show of unity. Your presence along the procession paid tribute not only to his life, but to the lasting legacy he leaves behind. On behalf of Sergeant Malcolm’s family, and all members of the OPP, thank you. #HeroesInLife
An OPP officer was killed while on duty along Highway 401 in Cobourg this afternoon. Our thoughts are with the officer’s family and all members of the OPP during this devastating time.
It was a pleasure to speak at the Ontario First Responders Mental Health Conference with @WoundWarriorCA. The health and well-being of Ontario’s public safety personnel is paramount.
That’s why our government is investing $32 million into mental health supports, ensuring those who serve our communities have access to the care they deserve.
We will continue working closely with our partners and frontline members to strengthen supports and keep this critical conversation moving forward.
