Incredibly sad over events that occurred. Feel it's not talked enough about how to deal with attention the right way. If you're an athlete, here are the rules I follow.
1) Public person = public scrutiny. Don't forget
2) Ask for ID, even if its uncomfortable day 1. Explain respectfully why.
3) 18 or under - terminate conversation. 18 = spawn camping high schooler with 0 life exp. If you're much younger, is 'okay'.
4) Be honest. Want some thing casual? Maybe they say no, but don't lie.
5) You need to know day 1 if its impossible for you to have a long term relationship. Some relationships develop, but there are some key boundaries time won't fix. For example: I'd never date someone that drinks excessively or smokes cigarettes. I also know I want a family
6) If you committed to something long term, don't cheat. If you want to see other women, be honest - end it.
You might lose a few people you wanted something with before anything starts because you were straight forward and honest. Perhaps, they found you off putting and too direct. It's okay. There are a lot of people in the world.
Its far better than any problem in the future. It's not even about hurting or not hurting that person. It's about what can happen after. Any bad relationship is going to make you play worse. It's just not worth it.
Lets hope for the good of the scenario that something like this doesn't happen again - because it is a loss to all of us that love the game.
