Happy Independence Day! The University of Pittsburgh will be closed in observance tomorrow and we will resume our normal hours of operation on Wednesday, July 5.

On June 19, 1865, federal troops were led Galveston, Texas, to announce that the Civil War had ended and slaves had been freed. Juneteenth serves as a way to celebrate and commemorate the news. On June 19, 2019, Pennsylvania officially designated June 19 a state holiday.

The O'Hara Student Center has been part of Pitt's campus for just over twelve years! Many original features of the building remain in one of our campus hubs for events, studying, and student resources!

Fun fact alert! What is currently the WPU became a part of our campus in 1956, serving as a residence hall and a student center. The building was renamed the William Pitt Union in 1983 after a series of renovations.
