@CoywolvesCole He cuts a strange silhouette as he walks it up to Cole Cassidy's farmhouse porch and rings the cracked-plastic doorbell.

@CoywolvesCole He rounds the vehicle and opens the bed with a metallic creak and thunk, and from inside of it he wheels out a shiny pastel-purple tricycle with a big red bow tied to the handlebars. He did say he'd be back with one, after all.

@CoywolvesCole @CowboyEmm "Right," he says, the syllable a drawn-out rasp. Hard to discern whether it's permission or mockery, but that's always how he's been.

"I'll be back with a tricycle. You and I will talk. You'll listen.

@CoywolvesCole @CowboyEmm There's another one of those sounds -- something of a scoff, but it's a bit different this time. Some twist of genuine amusement, maybe even fondness if one wants to read that far into it.

Gabriel's still lingering in this goddamned miserable shell. Still human, somewhere.

A shadow crawls beneath a canopy of branches drooping with ice. Blackened tendrils cling to everything it passes, a mass of mycelia, mapping out the woods to compensate for a lack of sight.

Fungal.

Lingers as he slides the box back into the hollow.

Fades only when he does — melting into the shade, the ghost of him rolling across the ground, retracing the veins of his previous route. In an hour, he’ll bloom within an old wood cabin, alone.
