Absolutely delighted that our ‘Cool Roof’ initiative has been featured in UNEP’s latest report. As part of the Urban Heat Mitigation Project, the Environment and Climate Change Department, GOTN in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme, implemented a cool roof technology demonstration in Chennai. The Lighthouse Project site in Perambakkam was chosen as the pilot location. Silka cool roof paint, with a high Solar Reflective Index (SRI) of 102, was applied to two residential blocks comprising 200 houses. This passive cooling intervention led to a temperature reduction of 5 to 8°C inside the buildings during peak summer months. We are now scaling up the initiative.
Amid scorching temperatures, India turns to ideas both old and new to beat the heat https://t.co/BPkJDrisLU
Today we lost more than lives.
We lost dreams, families, futures and a piece of our collective soul.
As a pilot, this tragedy in Ahmedabad is not just news it’s personal.
Every passenger, every crew member they are never just names on a manifest. They are the reason we fly with care, with duty and with love. And it is why we study so hard and give exams every 6 months.
My heart breaks for those who were aboard that Air India flight, for their families and for the colleagues in uniform who now won’t return home. There are no words strong enough to carry the grief that hangs in the air today.
But what makes this even harder is the noise. The rush to speculate. The self appointed “experts” with theories but no facts.
Aviation is a world of precision, training and systems. When things go wrong, we don’t need assumptions we need patience, facts and respect for the gravity of the loss.
To my fellow aviators, I know you feel this too. The knot in your stomach, the silence while doing the checklists, the moment you glance at the sky and it doesn’t look the same.
To the public,I ask for compassion. For silence sometimes. For empathy always.
Let us mourn, let the investigators work and let the skies remain sacred.
Fly high, those we lost. You are not forgotten. 🙏🏻
A pilot in mourning
On this #WorldOceanDay we must pause and hear the deep cries echoing from the bottom of our oceans, not silent anymore, but rising in revolt against the choking grip of pollution. Oceans cover 75% of Earth, hold 97% of its water, absorb 23% of CO₂, and support over 50% of global biodiversity yet they being dumped with trash around the world. In Tamil Nadu we are on a mission to to do our best to restore degraded islands, seagrass meadows, corals and mangroves which in turn will protect highly endangered Dugongs, Seahorses,Turtles and millions of other species. So far we have restored 18 acres of seagrass beds, 8 acres of corals including Kasuvar Island, planted 2403 Ha of new Mangroves and restored 1207 Ha of degraded Mangroves. Restoration of Vaan and Kariyachalli islands is underway. Fishnet initiative is helping to prevent discarded fishing nets from entering the Ocean. Lets Save,Conserve and Protect our beautiful oceans which are our lifeline. #WorldOceansDay #TNForest video - Branching Corals in Kariyachalli and Kasavur Island
Restoring degraded forests is one of the most powerful actions to protect biodiversity and combat climate change. In Tamil Nadu, we have successfully restored around 100 hectares of degraded forest land in the Palayam Pudhur beat of Dharmapuri Forest Range by planting over 10,000 native tree species under the Green TN Mission through the ongoing NABARD scheme. This initiative not only rejuvenates a once degraded ecosystem but also teaches us to invest in restoration to revive biodiversity and build climate resilience #TNGreenMission @NABARDOnline #TNForest @UNEP@UNBiodiversity #biodiversity #forestrestoration
Your trash shouldn’t become someone else’s responsibility!
Let’s take charge, dispose of waste properly, and protect our planet together 🌍🤍✨

@SupriyaShrinate Radha na bole, na bole, na bole re...ghoonghat ke pat na khole re. And you can guess kaun muraliya bajata hai, jispe yeh radha nachta hai.
Nagar panchayat kedarnath organised a cleanup today - 👏 🙌🏻
It’s visible how temporary raincoats are creating an issue
Used for 5/6 hours and then dumped along the way
Carry you raincoats - as simple as that

Nesting season of Baya weavers has begun. Males are busy in making half nests and wooing females to inspect them and give their approvals so that they can finalise the nests and breed in monsoon. Males abandon nests in case females disapprove them. Interesting to watch.
Until Jan 2020, I had neither seen nor heard of the Red-headed Ibis, even though it was always around
Its cranking calls in the evenings must have reached my ears many times — but when you're not into birding u r bird-blind 🤨😂🤔

Would you still call it sacred if it's drowning in plastic?
High-altitude temples like #Kedarnath & #Badrinath are burdened by plastic & litter. Pilgrims and locals must unite to protect their sanctity. Sacredness is in our responsibility too. Together, we can restore purity ✨
If waste is segregated how many cows can be fed on a daily basis
Every household must reintroduce this simple lifestyle practice to keep the solid waste segregated

Your yatra shouldn’t leave behind kacchra. 🙏🏻
Hundreds of Safai & Paryavaran Mitras work daily to keep Kedarnath clean. But the real test is whether we choose not to litter. If you carry something up, carry 100 grams down each can protect this sacred land

They told her to stay home. She sailed to Nazi Germany.
They told her to obey. She defied racist science with data.
They told her to stop. She built a legacy that lives on in whispers.
Before feminism had a name, Irawati Karve was living it.
India’s first female anthropologist, she crossed borders—literal and social—to study skulls, decode caste, and dismantle Nazi race theories with fearless science.
